Saturday we left for Florida to catch our cruise.
I have to say--it was a LONG trip and, needless to say, we will NEVER drive to Florida again.
Anyway, our cruise was to the Bahamas--Freeport, Nassau & Half Moon Cay. Half Moon Cay is a private island owned by Carnival CruiseLines. And it's a beautiful island.
I got a cabin with a balcony and it was GREAT! I'd get up early with a cup of coffee and sit out there with my Nook. Just really relaxing and nice & quiet.
Our first stop was Freeport Tuesday mrng. We didn't have an excursion planned but we got off the ship and hopped in a cab and wound up at the Beach. And it was great! 8 hrs of fun in the sun. It was a little cloudy and windy but not too bad. We all got the beginnings of a beautiful tan.
We got back to the ship about 4:30pm. The ship sailed at 5pm. I was at the gym by 7pm. I hit the gym religiously, without fail, Monday - Thursday for at least 45 minutes.
I have to say, tho, that this is the first cruise that I, as a vegetarian, could actually starve to death. If it were not for the salad bar I could have starved. There really wasn't any veggies set out at the buffet line. One night the had steamed broccoli. I swear, that was it! Not one other veggie on that line in the whole 5 days! I was SO tired of salads!
Nassau...Oh do I have a story to tell you on THAT!
Amber loves to swim so I saw the Atlantis Aquaventure Full Day w/ Lunch. Here's what the brochure said "Your tour begins when you board an air-conditioned motor coach for a 20-minute ride to the famed Atlantis Resort. Upon your arrival, you’ll be escorted on a tour of the grounds. Discover the resort’s 141-acre waterscape of pools, water coasters, body slides and rivers, making it the largest water-themed attraction in the Caribbean. The spectacular park features over 20 million gallons of fresh and seawater with more than 50,000 sea creatures. Be sure to view the marine exhibit called The Dig where you can embark on a journey through the tunnels and streets of the famous lost city of Atlantis and see spectacular marine life. Your tour will end at the Day Visitor Center, just beyond the Royal Towers.
Now you’re free to enjoy all the fun this world of water has to offer. For real exhilaration, ride the adrenalin-inducing water slides, including the pulse-pounding seven-story Power Tower. Go grab an inner tube and enjoy The Current & Rapids, a one-mile journey that serves up waves, rapids, tunnels, mysterious caves and other surprises. When you’ve had enough thrills for the moment, relax under the warm Bahamas sun and cool off in the refreshing water of a swimming pool. There are 11 to choose from such as the formal splendor of The Baths or the relaxed atmosphere of the River Pool that is connected to the Lazy River Ride.
Perhaps you’d like to visit the seven-acre Paradise Lagoon and rent paddleboats, snorkeling and other water sports in a protected environment. The powder-soft sand beach will invite you to linger and gaze over the azure water of the Bahamas.
While you’re at the Atlantis Resort, try your luck at the Caribbean’s largest casino or stroll through the more than 20 duty-free shops at the Marina Village. You’ll find everything from beach attire to unique crystal and watches from a variety of luxury boutiques.
When you’re ready for lunch, use the coupon provided at one of several outdoor eateries that offer wonderful views of the waterscape, lagoon, pools and the sea.
You may return to your “Fun Ship” every half hour starting at 1:00 PM with the last complimentary bus at 5:30 PM. After that, you have the option of taking a taxi back to the pier at your own expense."
The price was $184.99 per adult and $145.99 per child. That's a butt load of money. But Amber likes to swim so I paid it. What a disappointment. The water slides were closed and we weren't touching the Power Tower
The Dig was closed-I was looking forward to that one, too. So, for $516.00 Amber swam ALL day. We could have stayed on the ship and swam for free in one of 4 pools and waterslides. It was a total ripoff and we weren't the only parents complaining. Amber had fun and I guess that was worth it. But $516 to swim? I'm still mad at that one!
Stingrays in the water here.
One of the water slides
This was really cool! When you step on it little animals appear to be moving. It makes you step funny because you really think there are animals on the floor. It changes to lizards, fish, stingrays, etc. Really cool!
Half Moon Cay was my FAVORITE!
This is where I swam with the stingrays
I bought the excursion for the 3 of us. Glen backed out becuz the water was too cold and Amber never got off the step becuz she was scared. So it was just me! And it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! They are so big but so gentle. Their stingers were trimmed so you couldn't get hurt. And you do the 'StingRay Shuffle", Shuffle your feet instead of stepping. It was a 90 minute excursion. I got to play with them and feed them-it was just AWESOME!
(I'm in the orange)
(I'm holding a strfish here)
I definitely want to do another StingRay excursion!
