Good evening to all of my spark friends!
I was just commenting on a friends blog and that got me thinking about the treadmill.
Why do I push myself and try to run when I could just do a fast walk?
Why do I push for a faster time for the 5K distance every time I train?
Why did I sign up for a 5K when I have never even thought about it before I joined Spark people?
Why, Why, Why.
I guess the simple answer really is: because I can do all those things. What a gift it is to think that we can really do so much that we set our minds to.
Will I be the fastest runner, no, I am just hoping by July I can run the whole distance, but even if I cant, then I will walk part of it and run the other part of it and I will be really proud of myself because I did it.
So the bottom line in, keep pushing yourself, keep trying new things, keep finding new exercises that you enjoy.
Keep getting up every morning and make the decision that today will be a good day and then make it a good day.
Walk around the block, or around your work place. Smile at everyone you meet and say HI.
Keep on pushing to be the best that you can be. Keep on spreading the spark!
And when people ask me why I want to exercise and do a 5K, the answer will be.....
Because I Can!

    I just saw your other blog, than I noticed I missed this one, can't believe it! I need to reset some things, So sorry!!!
Very good blog Spark people is so very inspiring, never thought I could hike again and I do, able to garden with gusto, just started taking pictures and of course riding my bike again, and look at you, you started on the elliptical and now you are running a 5k. WOO HOO!! You are so right we need to remember to do things because we can. Way to go Holly. YOU CAN! Look forward to your race. emoticon emoticon emoticon

    I know exactly what you mean Holly - Funny how the Butterflies appear in your stomach After you sign up emoticon for the race- Then you cannot stop thinking about it ! lol - I do know that your going to be fine - and who knows you might place first in your age group , and if not who cares , its not about winning - for some people it is - But I never was runner before , and we will both build up strength to be faster. I was curious as to which shoe you decided on - its a key ! Also if you can add a pad like Lynco Pads to your shoe its a benefit . The one thing to concentrate on is your pace - keep the The Turtle and the Hare in Mind - Also if notice in my pictures - that I have a Water bottle that secures to your waist ( Chums - $20.00 at Sports Authority) I have noticed that water is not supplied to the runners until the first mile - so for me that was a problem - I would get thirsty so I would put a small amount of Water or Zico Coconut Water in the Chums Bottle , that carriie also has a pocket for a wet wipe for your lips , just to wet my lips and refresh. Coconut water has Electrolytes and its not like Gatorade - I am so happy that you are doing this 5k - we will do one together soon - Hugs Karen emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Great advice. Love your enthusiasm. Even though I'm still not up for a lot of exercise I will take a short walk and pass out some smiles. By the way the honey in the tea is just so soothing to the throat. Thanks. Have a great day. emoticon

    Wonderful statement for all to read. I am on a streak of 60 or less carbs per day and average about 1,100 calories per day also. Being a diabetic - carbs are a killer! They stick to my ribs and I can't shake them. This is Day 5 - and I lost 2 lbs. This is the first weight I have lost in months. When I get hungry I eat salad or a 1/2 oz of almonds - it is working. Yes, some might be water weight, but it is still a loss that I pray will continue. I am doing this BECAUSE I CAN...
