Success Is Not Just Reaching the Goal

Today is day 27 of my streak!

I still have a long way to go before I reach my goal weight, but I am in this for the long haul. I know I will reach my goal someday, but in the meantime I am doing my best to enjoy the journey! It isn't easy, but I am willing to fight for what I want.

The other day, a friend told me to keep going so that I can be a success someday. I know she meant well, but that comment kind of stuck in my craw. (Whatever a craw is.) Because to be honest, I already consider myself to be a success. Every day when I get up and resume the fight to reach my goal, I am a success. Each workout, each healthy meal, each glass of water, each conscious decision to keep pushing...those are the things that make me a success. Yes, reaching my goal will be awesome, but it will just be one more success in a string of successes. And reaching my goal will not be the end of my journey, because this is a lifestyle that I must continue with forever. I can never ever say "I'm done." Right now, I am fighting to reach my goal. When I reach my goal, I will have to fight to stay there. I know this and I accept it.

Losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle is not easy. But being out of shape, unhealthy and overweight isn't easy, either. So choose your hard! Why not choose to break out of that unhealthy lifestyle, and start working towards being healthy and fit? Yes, its hard, but its so worth it. If you do nothing, nothing will change except that you will just get more unhealthy, and your life will pass you by. So be a success NOW, and start fighting to live a healthy life. Fight to lose that weight. Even if you can only workout for 2 minutes at a time, get started. Those 2 minutes will lead you to more and more, as long as you keep trying. A small start is better than NO start.

To me, success is not just reaching the goal. I think that success happens with each and every step you make towards the goal! So congratulate yourself for your efforts...you are a success as long as you are putting forth your best effort every day!

emoticon emoticon emoticon I look for what I call Non Scale Victories when the scale is not moving. I have lost about 65 pounds over the past 5 years. But lately it has been a battle. But I try to stay focused and move forward. I do not regret yesterday, I live for today and look forward to tomorrow. My non scale victories are things like decreasing medication, feeling good, getting out and moving more. Feeling comfortable about myself, and knowing I am changing my life for the better.

I know what you mean...I've lost 80 pounds and it drives me crazy to hear people belittle the progress with comments that make it seem that I won't be a real success till I'm at the goal weight....

What a great motivational blog! You have energized me for the day. I especially like the "little, by little, by little" approach. Since I have a tendency to dive in head first at 150% I frequently end up feeling overwhelmed and drown. KEEP BLOGGING!

I absolutely love your blog; There were two parts that really hit me:
"Choose your hard" & when you said that you "already consider yourself to be a success"
This is so true and glad that someone was able to put into words how I feel
Congratulations & Best of Luck on your journey & thanks for sharing

    Pixie,

What a joy and inspiration you are! Thank you for always reminding me to take things one step at a time. So many things in our lives can feel out of our control, yet we can choose to control ourselves by taking healthy steps each moment we are given, and each step is a success. There may be times that we don't make the right selections, but if we are aware we understand that those incorrect selections are part of the journey as well. We can learn and grow mentally stronger, by understanding ourselves better, which is always a success.

Thanks again for the motivation and encouragement that you always give so freely.

    Great blog!
It does get easier as you go along. Many of the foods I used to crave don't sound good anymore. Some of my favorite meal now are so healthy it surprises me. If I don't go out for my walks every day I truely misss them. These are the things that are meant by lifestyle change. If you have truely changed your lifestyle then many of the things that are hard now become the norm.

You are strong and can continue this journey to the end. You have lost so much and gained your life back. I have been at this for over a year now and can only say I have 17 pounds off. I have had so many stresses get in my way and I let them. (my dad in hospital, my kids fighting over custody of my grandson, my oldest moving to Newfoundland thousands of miles away and taking one of my granddaughters with her, me being sick for three weeks, my basement flooding on the weekend as sump pump went and arguments with step mother of the child I am raising to the point of me calling the Police & CAS.) I am stressed to the max right now but I have been doing pretty good to not go to the store and buy icecream and chocolates. I bought ice cream last week which was March Break from school and it didn't do anything for me. I am confident that I can get through this with the least of set backs. I am determined to be healthy. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon I WILL CONQUER THIS AND SURVIVE AS YOU HAVE SHOWED ME THE WAY. So sorry for the ranting.

I am so happy that you know your friend didn't mean to hurt you. I reached my goal, had a very stressful event happen in my life that I am going through right now and lost my way. I have eaten ice cream, pizza, McDonald's(ugh) cookies for breakfast, I don't think I have eaten healthy in over a week. I stopped tracking food and stopped exercising and sparking. I am sitting in front of the idiot box watching the Jodi Arias trial and stuffing my face. I "woke up" thanks to my spark friends before any real damage was done. I am faking it until I feel it now but at least I am back in the game. Point? Life happens and there will be pitfalls, as you said this is a lifestyle, which we must live the rest of our lives. I am learning a lesson. Success is not reaching your goal, success is achieving your goal, success is as you said each glass of water, each workout. emoticon Pixie. You are a SUCCESS!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
