We made our traditional trek to the beach to watch the ACC basketball tournament this past weekend . Sadly, my Tarheels lost in the final game to Miami. BUT! we made it to the final game!
This is the first opportunity - weatherwise - that we have had to take our bikes down since November. We had a crisp morning Saturday to ride before the semi-final games. I had not had a chance to ride my new bicycle my husband gave me for Christmas. I actually had not even sat on it until last weekend when we took it to our LBS to have it fitted. I love it! It is quite different from my old one (now serving me well on the trainer, where I logged in many miles during the winter), different gear set-up and different way to change them. I was a little trepidatious, thinking I would not be able to make a smooth transition and kick my chain off - or worse. However, the adjustment was a POC!
It is so true that there is little comparison between indoor and outdoor exercise! I was surprised at how difficult the ride was. I only did 13 relatively flat miles in excellent weather (high 50's) and was ready to get off the bike we when got back to the house. It was as if the only thing riding the trainer had done for me was wear in my saddle - which is not to be scoffed at! I was thankful to be able to SIT to watch the games!
Here's a picture of Ramses (the UNC mascot's name - my bike is Carolina blue and white) and me in front of the intracoastal waterway, which forms the northern boundary of our island.
I am looking forward to longer days, warmer mornings and many more opportunities to ride.
Happy Monday everyone!
