Coldest Half Marathon Ever!!

Monday, March 18, 2013

So my half marathon was this past Saturday and I really can't even begin to describe how miserable the conditions were!!! I knew the risk of training for a half during the Chicago winter...but it was still brutal!

30 degrees, misty / snowy, terrible winds....

I'm so happy its over!! The odds for this race weren't really in my favor and I can't help thinking how less than 6 months ago I ran a full marathon and felt great / injury free the whole time.

I've been having some hip flexor pain this time around, so that's been nagging me too. It took a good 2 miles to thaw out and regain feeling in my hands and feet. Things were looking great up to the turnaround. My husband kept saying the first half "I think the wind is at our backs..." and he was certainly correct. Major winds along with mist/snow pelting our faces the entire second half.

In my mind I wanted to stop the madness, but I also wanted to be done more than anything. I pushed through the misery and we crossed at 1 hour 58 minutes (just 1 second off my PR!). I was shocked with the time, but I guess the cold sparked a little vigor in my step!!
