5 Weeks to Abe's Pioneer Tri

Well, today it doesn't look much like I'll be doing this tri, but I'm not letting foot pain make me sit out this year!!! I'm wearing the orthopedic boot and staying off it...as much as one can while washing clothes for a family of 7...and yesterday I iced it in between being on stage for my parts. I ran 2 miles last week, and that was all. I'm really angry that I'm STILL going through this, and if I thought our health insurance would cover a visit to an orthopedic dr., I would totally be there tomorrow. But usually, what happens is about 6 weeks after a doctor visit, we get a nasty surprise in the mail, all the stuff that didn't get covered, that the dr. wants us to pay. So, husband and I decided that we're not going to the dr. anymore unless we're dying.

Anyway, I also had a pretty crappy week of exercise and eating. The foot stuff has me down, and ice cream has been my consolation, and I haven't been getting enough water. Again.

Today I'm working really hard to just stay accountable. I opened my public food/exercise log again today, and I'm doing good today. Yesterday I did pretty decent at the passion play potluck, and I took someone's advice by having 2 servings of vegetable before having anything else! There was not much to have yesterday; I think a lot of people are not prepared to be in this play, because Easter falls so early this year, and it has just taken us all off guard.

As for the tri, I'm still doing it. I can swim 300 yards; I already swim more than a mile every time I go to the pool. I can bike 13 miles; it's less mileage than I ever go now! The only obstacle is the 5K run, and even if I have to do it in a boot, I'm going. I tried running in my boot last fall, when I was on the pit crew for one of my daughter's marching band shows...and I ran fine, just with a little limp. I can run with the ankle brace on by itself, and that works out fine too. I will figure it out.

Well, I guess that's about all for now. It's St. Patrick's Day so the entire family is subjected to husband's Clancy Brothers station on Pandora, and hopefully I can get him to polish off the last few bottles of Guinness in our fridge so there's room for food in there! I have a corned beef brisket in the crockpot, and I'm trying out a trick I saw on TV: put a little water in the bottom of the crockpot, and then put a small saucer upside down in the bottom of the crockpot, and the meat goes on top and stays elevated from the grease that pools below it. I hope it works! I also have colcannon potatoes that my Irish mother-in-law taught me how to make. It's husband's favorite day of the year. I'm Polish-American so I'm just married into this madness...but I guess it's fun for one day.

    oh man.... i hate those nasty suprises :(

there is an Ironman video out there where there was someone who finished the marathon of the ironman in a boot. even if you hobble to the finish, you FINISHED.

I can only imagine the frustration. hang in there Jenn.

    Today is the start of a new spark, make it the best you can! That's a cool idea rising the meat up away from the fat! It feels like st. patricks day is a bigger deal this year than most. Maybe cuz it's on a weekend and ppl get get more drunk than usual. Good luck with your training with the brace. I know you, where theres a will theres a way!
