It was balmy last night so I went to sit on the front porch. Joan had gone shopping with the girls and twilight was approaching. I closed my eyes and slowly drew in a deep breath and exhaled, then another and another. As my body relaxed my mind slowly drifted into the present that was around me.
Somewhere down the street burgers were being grilled. That tasty and tantalizing aroma toyed with my nostrils, laughing like my granddaughter does when she plays a joke on me. Above that smell were two birds, talking back and forth. A third bird was just talking. I imagined a large figure above all of this stirring a pot, tasting and seasoning. Joan keeps wind chimes all along the front porch of all shapes, sizes and tones. Iíll be honest, they mostly annoy me. It seems the wind only blows through them when Iím on the phone!!! Last night they played alone and then together. They invited the birds to join and the aroma of grilled meat became stronger. There was a rush of wind and suddenly the sounds and smells overwhelmed me and rushed over me in a pleasing and reassuring way. The symphony of life softly played a tune in my soul. I heard each note alone and then together. I inhaled them and let them linger
Godís creation and its beauty and majesty may be no further away than your front porch
