After a week of cooking for volunteers on the Iditarod Trail, I am home. Had a wonderful week and learned a lot of neat tricks on making meals for the masses. We actually got up and started cooking by six in the morning, tried to cook hearty breakfasts for those people that were staged outside in the cold and doing heavy work. Oatmeal, eggs, bacon, pancakes. You burn a lot more calories outside in 20 degree weather. We cooked for a large range of people. Since pilots finished flying at 9pm, dinners were served until 10:30pm, with clean up after and prep for the next morning. We worked until 11:30 - 12:00, and a couple times didn't get to bed until 12:30. Long days, hard work. Loved it. Did not get to track my food, but tried to eat properly (even though I was in charge of dessert every night.) Watched my portions. Actually lost 1 pound. Already volunteered for next year.
