Rough start but great day!

Saturday, March 16, 2013

Had a really hard time getting motivated this am. I was up at 5 and it took an hour for me to get out of bed - and that was just because I needed the bathroom. Now I have a VERY small house and the "hall" between my bathroom and my bedroom is maybe 2.5 ft wide. I walked right into two dogs. Sitting side by side, tails wagging. I looked down - two leashes! I have no idea how they got them down but they did. I just can't disappoint my girls.

I seriously under-dressed but out to run we went. I was freezing but we ran for about 20 minutes. We did about 2 miles. I came home with two happy dogs and frozen fingers.

Hubby was up by this point and we decided to head to Lincoln Park Zoo. We got there and I had forgotten that the St. Paddy's 5K was today. Fortunately we were able to find parking. I haven't been to that zoo in years, it was terrific. We did the entire zoo, I got some great pictures.

There is also a Conservatory right there. Hubby just sat in the front but I had a WONDERFUL time. I love plants and green things. I was in heaven in the fern room. It was snowing (flurries) outside but there I was in the dead of summer with life in bloom. I know I should have taken pictures but I was just lost in the beauty of the place. I really need to go back. Here is a picture I got hubby to take before he took his breather on the bench:

Food wasn't great today. Big breakfast (which is normal for Saturday) but then pizza for lunch. Fortunately I'm not hungry at all. Maybe I'll just have some carrots later and call it a day.

What? No St. Patty's 5K for you? Now, here is a place you need to visit when those winter blues grab hold! Go enjoy that beauty and summer within the conservatory! That is my professional prescription for you. Love the picture you put in my head of both girls sitting there holding their leashes waiting for a walk! If Jack ever gets his down from the basket over the washing machine I will call the news media! Glad you had such a lovely time! and.... Food, shmood.... You made it a wonderful day for you!

I miss my dogs the most in the morning. That was our time - I did the "first thing in the morning" walk. Every morning, I'd wake up with at least one set of deep brown eyes staring at me - no more than 6 inches away from mine.

used to take the bus to the zoo then walk through it to get to the beach all summer! Been years since I've been there.

That is hilarious that the dogs made the point so clear that they wanted to go for a walk and they got the leashes down and ready to go! That was funny!

Have a great St. Patrick's Day!

Sounds like a great day for all of you. We are taking the little guy to the zoo tomorrow. The nearest one is a little over an hour away so it' s kind of a big deal when we go. We have to do it on spring break because in the summer it's just too hot to be comfortable.

Happy St. Patrick's Day today!

    Lincoln Park Zoo, eh.

I'm from Chicago. I met my wife, Beth, when she was a student nurse at Augustana Nursing School. Her apartment, and the hospital were only a few blocks from Lincoln Park.

I lot of good memories (and bad -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
1968_Democratic_National_Conven
tion_protest_activity ) come from there.

The Chicago Parks, lake front, Beaches, museums (including the LPZ), and forest preserves are really quite extraordinary.

One summer I drove a CTA bus, and other summers I worked in the city downtown garages.

I don't miss the weather, 'though. (But, I do miss the Cook County Mosquito Abatement District. :-|).
