"Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails." (Prov. 19:21) And so when I make plans, there is that unspoken "given" that things may turn out other than expected. Biggest illustration was last year's trip to Pucallpa, fully expecting to have gotten married, only to come upon a mountain of paper roadblocks. But I've learned in my 42 years (as of March 13) of walking with the Lord, that He is indeed sovereign, and does indeed work things to my good.
So tonight I went to the church's building, fully expecting the women's meeting that was scheduled ("third Saturday every month") - a LITTLE early, but not SO early that I would have expected the crew of women setting up for the pleasant evening NOT to be there...But at 6:50, I was the only vehicle in the parking area. It occurred to me that the son of one of the elders recently passed away, earlier this week, and it was possible things had been cancelled. And I, being a fairly new member, was probably out of the loop of people contacted. Or a message was sent and I failed to get it.
BUT...there, in the back yard of the abandoned house next to the church property, were THREE DEER, grazing. Their heads popped up, ears and tails alert, as I pulled into the lot. But as I made no threatening moves, they settled back into grazing.
And I was in no hurry. I LOVE seeing animals in the wild. Deer are common enough that you MIGHT see them, but uncommon enough that it's a treat when you do, if you're a nature lover like me. I wished I had my camera with me! I may have to just start bringing it for those "just in case" times!
For me, it was more than just an, "Oh, look, deer!" moment. At such times it's more of a whisper from my Heavenly Father, "Look what I brought you!" So as I smiled and watched them, I just gave God thanks, and enjoyed 15 minutes there before I headed back home.
