What the heck SP?!?

Saturday, March 16, 2013

I've had the SP app for my phone for the last 2 years. Today, I got a new phone, and I had to pay $3.99 for the exact same app. It's still an andriod phone... still the same carrier... what's up sparkpeople??? WHY after 2 years do I now have to pay for this app? I'm probably just behind and they've been charging for the app... I don't know, and that's ok...

Cloud based iPhones usually transfer all Apps that were previously held by the user. I dropped my iphone in the toilet and because I had the Apple Care plan, I got a new one and had all my stuff back up and running within 2 minutes. I was very happy!!

Not sure how Android works. I know that the Spark App used to be free, but now they charge. Maybe that was the difference? Hopefully it did not cause you too much heart burn. It is a lot of "bang for your buck!"

I have tried many other Apps, but am defaulting to Spark one now all the time. Allows me to track on the fly and to get my Spark points in too!

(love spinning the wheel on my phone!!)

Actually I found Log it, Free app that you can, like Spark log your meals (food)! Even can scan bar codes of items and they appear!! Very cool!

Free is better. I'm sure they have expenses. Too bad they don't have a free version just for food update or something.

I didn't know you had to pay for the newer one either. That's good to know. Probably still worth it but it's good to know.

I still have the free version, but apparently the new version lets you view sparkpoints or something. They aren't updating the old one either, so if mine ever breaks, I'll have to pay to upgrade. Boo. I'm totally with you.

Yep. I did too. It's the only app I've paid for on my phone - ever. I think it's worth it.

I had that same problem! The guy that sold me my new phone said my apps wouldn't transfer over, so I deleted the SparkPeople app on the old phone, so I could get a message, and it looks like all the stuff he said wouldn't transfer did! I still haven't paid for the app. I just log on to the site with my phone's internet. I'm a cheapo!

I think they are trying to make a few bucks on the side. That's okay though, the app is worth paying to keep us in check :)

I had to pay the one time charge too but it didn't bother me. The site is free and the information and friends I have made make it well worth the 2.99.

Just my opinion.

I know! My phone app fritzed on me after 6 months, so I uninstalled it. When I tried to reinstall, I had to pay the 3.99. The paid for app got an upgrade that allows me to scan barcodes. (I don't know if the free app got the same upgrade.) I think the $3.99 is okay. It's less than a meal at McD's after all. (And half the price of Southwestern Eggroll Appetizer at Chilis).

Hope your little guy is feeling better!

I think they have been charging for a while now, but its too bad, I think some people are choosing other apps because they don't want to pay!
