"How would you judge the lawfulness or unlawfulness of "pleasure?" Use THIS RULE:

Saturday, March 16, 2013

Hello Sparkpeople:

This quote by Susanna Wesley, mama to John and Charles Wesley, well known preachers.

"How would you judge the lawfulness or unlawfulness of "pleasure?"
Use this rule:
Whatever weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sight of God, takes from you your thirst for spiritual things or increases the authority of your body over your mind, then that thing to you is evil.
By this test you may detect evil no matter how subtly or how plausibly temptation may be presented to you.
Susanna Wesley

I have contemplated this quote quite often and look forward to meeting this amazing woman, who endured more in her lifetime than I can ever imagine facing...

I hope it helps you in your walk, too

Grace and peace to us all!

What a wise child you have. I doubt many 3 year olds have that much Godly wisdom!

Somehow we overlook the "evil" that is lurking in our lives...

Another version of this quote says ".... that thing to you is SIN"

There are so many temptations "in this world"
Not that we should be calling everything that isn't "godly" - "evil"

I am being made aware of the many distractions in my life... things that keep me from accomplishing things that I know I should do....

My son, when he was 3, told some men at a wedding reception:

emoticon "Anything you TALK ABOUT more than God
    BECOMES your god.

Then he thought a little more and added:

emoticon "Anthing you THINK ABOUT more than God,
    IS your god."

Lawlessness is sin and we best be aware of it no matter how crafty the devil may be. God Bless YOU! Vic.

I can really agree with this because I have found that sometimes "good" things like exercise when taken in excess can be bad for you when it separates you from loving action or takes your eyes off God
