I think I have finally found the best doctor I've ever had since I moved here to southern Missouri 7 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw this new doctor two months ago and had a follow up appointment with her today. I had my blood drawn on Monday but there was a mixup with whom ordered the tests and such so the tests hadn't been done yet. I will know probably by Monday or Tuesday on some and then Thursday or Friday on the others. I had a bunch of questions for her and I love that she took the time to answer all of my questions. I didn't feel like she was placating me either! That irritates me more than just about anything is when is when a doctor gives me placating answers and doesn't really listen to me!!! I spent at least 1/2 hour to 1 hour in with her.
One of the things I talked to her about was my exercising. She told me that exercising 2 hours a day 6 - 7 days per week is a little too much. She said it's best to exercise a couple of days and then take a day off.
I'll have to wait until Monday or Tuesday for the results of my thyroid tests. She told me that because my thyroid levels were too high the last time I saw here that my heart rate might have been kind of high too and that might have been partly why I was having a hard time sleeping. That and I was still kind of recovering from my broken leg. I asked her about taking a combination of T3 / T4 med's for the hypothyroidism. She didn't have any problems putting me on a combination of the two but we'll have to wait for my test results to come back. I've been having a bit of a hard time sleeping lately but I think a lot of that had to do with my overexercising and my thyroid levels being too high. She said that I looked better than the last time I saw her. When I saw her last time she said that I looked drug out and tired. She also said that my color was better.
I asked her about taking bioidentical hormones for the estrogen / progesterone. There is one pharmacy in this area that does compounding and all I have to do is go down and fill out a questionnaire. Then the pharmacist will talk to her about what she recommends putting me on. Then she'll make it up for me after they discuss it. It can be a combination of estrogen / progesterone / testosterone / DHEA. So, if I can get down to the pharmacy (in the next town, approx. 35 miles away) tomorrow or Monday that would be great.
On both sides of my family there is a history of breast cancer and ovarian cancer on my mom's side. Both of which are directly linked to each other. I asked her about getting tested for the Breast Cancer gene. Surprise, surprise, but the greedy insurance companies don't want to pay for the test most of the time. I get that it's an expensive test but it could quite possibly be a preventative test that might save someone's life. I most likely can't afford to pay for it to be done. She told I'd have to talk to my insurance company to see if I could get them to pay for it. I also asked her about the effectiveness of mammograms. I wanted to know if the reason why breast cancer is being caught early most times is because of mammograms or self-breast exams or both. She said that it's both and she's pretty adamant about women getting mammograms especially since her sister had breast cancer. So, she scheduled me to get mine since it's been a year since I had my last one. Oh so much fun!! NOT!!!!
I talked to her about my struggles with trying to lose weight. I told her that when I lived in Colorado all I had to do was exercise to lose weight and eat right for the most part. I said that since I've been here it's been like pulling teeth to try to lose weight. I told her that I watch how much I eat and what I eat plus exercise but it's just been so incredibly difficult to lose weight. She told me that I had lost 2 pounds since I saw her last. I was surprised about that! I'll take a 2 pound loss considering that my weight had been going up despite exercising and eating right! I told her that recently I'd started eating a low-carb diet to see if it would help with losing weight. So, maybe...maybe eating a low-carb diet is helping?! She is going to send me to a dietitian though to see if the dietitian might be able to help me more.
Overall I was really happy with my appointment today. Oh and my blood pressure was 118 over 60. My temp was high but I had been sitting in the sun on the way to the appointment.
Also, I took a few days off from exercising but am getting back into physical activity again. I walked 1/3rd of a mile to our mail box and then another 1/3rd mile back home yesterday. Then my FIL stopped by and we walked him back to his car that he parked up at the neighbor's property (halfway to the mailbox). He doesn't like to take his car down the very rugged road that we share with several neighbor's. So, I walked about a mile yesterday up and down several hills. Today after I got home I raked some of the leaves in the yard. Boy, raking up dry and wet leaves is more of a workout than you realize. I found a fairly good size spider living under the leaves near the house. HOPEFULLY this means he / she will not be coming into the house. I know most of you will think I'm crazy but I don't kill spiders. I have a large clear plastic cup that I'll trap them under and then I'll get a folded over old envelope and shimmy it under the cup until it's on the envelop under the cup. Then I'll take it outside and toss them out over the fence. Sometimes they'll STILL find their way in to house. The daddy long legs like to come into the house and sit on the wall across from the television and watch it! We've seen them purposefully hang out on the door in the summer time waiting for us to open the door so that they can come in!!! I know this may seem strange that I don't kill spiders but I believe that it's good karma.
You're probably thinking that this is the strangest way to end a blog about going to a doctor's appointment but I'm kind of unconventional. So, there you have it...that's just the way I am.
