Now, before we start getting into a fruit war... look at this picture...


Before anyone says the worst and most misleading statement (and here my whiny, mocking voice here!!)

It DOES NOT!! One pound = One pound. It doesn't matter whether its fat or muscle, iron or feathers. Muscle DOES take up a heck of a lot less area. And that is another great illustration proving the need for weight training.

Doing cardio alone will help anyone lose weight. However, the calorie loss does not differentiate between fat and muscle.

Ladies, don't be afraid to lift weights. YOU WILL NOT GET BULKY. You will look toned and gorgeous and you will get strong. The only way you will get bulky is if you spend HOURS lifting very heavy weight and probably adding supplements.

The picture is from the article that follows. I don't know this lady. But that is her in both pictures. She weighs exactly the same. Please note how much stonger and fitter she looks in the second picture.

I'm due for some more Before/After pics myself soon. I don't know if I weigh the same as I did several months ago. But I know that I am a size smaller. I have some muscle definition. I am stronger. I have less joint pain. I have more stamina and I sleep better.

I am working on gaining strength to participate in Highland Games and it was difficult to step away from the scale. But I was getting obsessed and it was not good. I'm still eating healthy. I have added protein and still try to eat more veggies and fruits.

I heard a good statement the other day "Never lift anything lighter than your purse!" I'm lifting some serious luggage now!!

    Ironically I knew this, yet I let strength training (which once I start I love it) go by the wayside. I have to get back to it. Thanks for the reminder.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. If enough people keep saying that maybe just maybe it will actually get believed.
After you finish your cardio the high rate of metabolic activity drops off significantly. After you do weight training that drop is much more gradual and you will burn more calories at a higher rate for a longer period of time.
