The scale moved earlier this week and won't STOP moving - which is very exciting :) Looking back at my recent workouts and nutrition, here's how I think I broke this last plateau (about 5 weeks with no definite drops on the scale). For reference, I'm at about 20-22% bodyfat and within a few pounds (5-10) of my goal weight (which is the middle of the "healthy" BMI range for my height).
1. I ate more! I am still tracking my workouts and my food intake, and I was ending up with a deficit of 4500+ calories per week which is NO GOOD for where I am in my journey. I wanted that number to be under 3000, so I buckled down and ate...after which I at some more. And ate again. I even ate a small bag of Fritos. I finally managed to hit my target of 1800-1950 calories a few days in a row, and one day I even ate 2200 calories.
2. I cut back on cardio. 6 hours of zumba plus 10+ hours of dancing each week (on top of strength workouts and, you know, life) made for fun evenings but I think it was too much for me right now. I cut down to just 2-3 hours of zumba and was magically able to wake up and walk normally some days. Quads can recover if only you let them.
3. I slept a lot. Part of the reason that I was missing zumba is that I was coming home from work and going to sleep! Not sure what was going on with that exactly, but I'm back to normal now.
I'd like to say that I also drank enough water but I don't think that doing it 2/7 days per week really contributed much to anything. I am still working on perfecting that one.
It is strange and exciting to see a number in the 120's on the scale. I shouldn't care, but I truly can't ever remember seeing a number like that before. I know I was a size 14-16 in kids' clothes when I was in 4th grade and that I weighed in the 140s at least by 5th grade (junior's size 9-11 in 5th and 6th grades), so it's very weird to think that the last time I might have weighed this little I would have been 8-9 years old. I know sizes have inflated some, but I wore a pair of junior's shorts out last night that are a size 3 and a little loose.
It's a good thing we made it past December 21 or I might think that the world was ending!
