Turning Lemons into Champagne

Friday, March 15, 2013

My knee pain is getting better. I have not been able go run and I really miss it. Last night was the first time in over 10 weks my fh and I went walking. As I hit the road my body screamed "RUN DARLENE RUUUUUN!!!" Sigh...lemon# 1 emoticon

So how did I turn this lemon into champagne...I swam instead

In 2003 I volunteered to swim for my team on Sport's give us points. I couldn't swim the length of the pool and that was a standard pool.. I could never get the breathing technique I never knew how to tread water. This fact has really bugged me and over the years I said I should learn to swim properly and I just kept saying it...lemon# 2 emoticon

So I can't run...made me so sad real sad...cause that was one thing I could do and loved to do. At that point I was not sure what else I would love.

Then ...beginning of champagne conversion.... I was told of swim classes at the beach ( stage one of conversion possible) on saturday mornings (stage 2 of conversion possible). I went, learnt and after that first Saturday I realized that I could also go and practice weekdays (final stage possible). My instructor told me last Saturday (at week 9) that I don't need her anymore than my swimming is great! (Conversion commenced!)

I have started just swimming for as long as I can now and realized I can probably practice for a distance swimming race...maybe a 5K swim race SWIM DARLENE SWIIIIIIIIM!!!.

I miss running (lemons) but now I can and love distance swimming (champagne conversion successful!!)

So when my knee heals..I will swim and I hear triathlon in my future.....

Next on my bucket list....diving

In winter you could try an indoor heated pool to keep up your swimming if it was too cold for the beach! Have fun with your swimming.

Take care,

    Way to go!

I never did learn how to swim - I took lessons when I was 6 or 7 and ended up almost drowning along with my poor mother. I jumped on top of her trying to show her how I had learned to jump into the deep end and swim. Bad idea!

Maybe some day....
