Feeling a Little Sour Today

Friday, March 15, 2013

Okay...I admit it.
I feel like a sour grape when it comes to folks who take off 35 pounds and
claim they went from obese to absolutely fabulous
and then start preaching to me
how they did it so I can do it too.

I admit I'm jealous....
I wish I only had 35 lbs to lose to look fabulous
then again
I don't consider someone who lost a mere 35 lbs ... a weight loss prodigy.
It's not earth shattering to me.
{...I guess I'm biased against overweight people claiming their obese...}

I want to be one of those people who say:
"Look at me...I did it"

I can't.....not yet.....

I'm working on it

It's a long long road on my marathon...
and by the time I get to the finish line
they will have wrapped things up and all gone home
and only the discarded streamers will be left

but I'll know ..."I DID IT"

and the crowds in my head will be cheering like crazy.

and that's what counts

Yes, what is most important is how you personally feel about it from within not from what is going outside that can be tremendously fickle! Yay for self esteem and caring for one's inner child.

It comes off one pound at a time. I have lost 35 lbs and I am still obese and will be for quite some time. Please don't feel sour around me. TE HE. emoticon emoticon emoticon

It is frustrating when others "seem" to make their goals easily and brag about it to the point you feel worthless.

I have a friend who had by-pass surgery to loose weight. She did. Then she kept nagging me to do it also. I refused.

Today she has gained back a good bit of the weight she lost and now she has medical bills as well.

I did not want her to gain her weight back. I just wanted her to NOT force me into something I really did not want.

I can loose weight and so can you. It may take us on a different path to do so. But whatever path it is----it is OUR PATH. Not someone else's. THAT I can live with and so should you.

No one needs to have someone preach to them! You are a strong person. With your exuberance for life, you will find your own way to lose weight. No one noticed when I lost 35 pounds as I had so much more lose.
You won't be alone at the finish line. We will be here cheering you on.

Cheer up...there will be lots of people at your party, including me. I will be the last man (woman) standing when it comes to length of time it takes to get to my happy weight. As a matter of fact, I think we'll have lots of company. Just tell those preachy people that your plan is better because you're learning and leading a lifestyle, not just a weight loss diet! We'll get the job done on our own timeline, not someone else's! Hugs and love, Jeannie

I can understand about how you feel on this blog. Majority of us are not much fun of hearing bragging about skinny person become skinnier and how hard it was for that parson to lose weight. and etc..Lol)). For me I have started my journey mid range of obese in my BMI. I am a shorty, if you call it petite it sounds better but not in reality. So when I over eat and gained weight I have no margin to work with. I looked obese and I moved like obese person. Not like a person with hight of "5-9 or 6 feet tall, that you can't even tell where they gained weight. Lol)) Thank goodness. I've lost quite bit of weight. But I am still learning phrase of this weight loss, so I can't and I won't preach some one to how to lose it. But I would love to get encourage each other along the way. Friendship does help on our health journey. (*^^*)

    Hi Sheryl...........
You WILL NOT be alone at that Finish Line. We will get there in our own time and since I have done most things that mattered in my life, slowly and methodically, this shouldn't be any different. And.........I will appreciate it that much more.
    YOU are NOT alone!!! emoticon

I can relate. At my age losing weight usually involves a hysterectomy and if I lose weight I will still be old, just not fat and old. LOL. Okay, I'm sour now too. LOL

Sheryl, of course you are right. Okay now does that make you feel better? Being vertically challenged (4'11") if I could lose 40 lbs. I honestly would go from obese to unbelievably gorgeous. No kidding! Right now I weigh 150 lbs. and am in the obese category. Dang blast, easier said than done that 40 lbs to go. emoticon

Slogging along on the road with you, Sher! I am finding that I have to do what it takes for me- no one else can do it for me or figure it out for me. A lot of it is figuring out MY "whys" and "wherefores". It is hard work and takes a lot of time for us finely-aged women with 50+ years to work our way through!

    Keep on keepin' on,
    Katie

Once you ferment you'll make some great tasting wine!!

It is hard to see these people all around us. What gives me satisfaction is knowing they are only fooling themselves in the long run. I'm learning, also, that what works for me isn't necessarily the right thing for others. I stay away from those who preach "It's my way or the highway".

SparkPeople is such a great place to do that marathon together, thank you for sharing.

You're AWESOME Sheryl. Never, evah forget that. HUGS

Sheryl, you make an adorable grape! It's so true. Every magazine cover shows some supermodel or star claiming how they overcame obesity, which means they gained 5 or 10 lbs. They have no clue how it looks/feels to be obese or how to tackle it. They have "people" who help them - trainers, cooks, etc. But we have something better than that, we have each others. So here is to sweeter successes in the future!

Years ago I saw and interview with a super model who claimed to have lost 40 pounds after pregnancy. When questioned about her highest weight, she confessed that she had never weighed. Some people who "lose tons" just think they lost tons, not everybody, but some people really are not objective about their "accomplishments".

Keep your eyes on the prize! emoticon

Ummmmm... I think I am right there with you on this journey... when I lost 40 pounds 3 years ago, i was still obese. I put 20 of those back, so you know it - I am still obese. And if I achieve this years goal - get the 20 off and lose 10 more - I will STILL be obese... I will celebrate madly when I reach overweight! But not with food! Maybe I'll get professional photos taken... or just buy new clothes... but it is a long way away...
