A Special Anniversary and not what you are thinking
Thursday, March 14, 2013
Our local grocery store just celebrated 5 years of local ownership
by over 140 shareholders. Tonight was our annual meeting and we
rolled out plans to build a new grocery store. It is a very ambitious
project. We would more than double the floor space we have now
in a 2 story building that was built in 1938 and started out as a hotel.
It was converted to a grocery store in about 30 years later. It is a
beautiful brick building but it has many issues, from a leaky roof
to floors that are starting to sag. Our current manager is a work
horse and has such foresight in the daily operations. I think he
spends an average of 12 hours a day there. Things are constantly
changing and the variety of products offered is unreal.
Tonight we shared the floor plan for the new building in a location
on the highway. It would be the only grocery store on that
highway for 100 miles. We are hoping to proceed with funding
to get this project off the drawing board and into reality. We are
talking of $600,000 to $800,000. This in a little town of 602 people.
I do believe it can be done and yours truly was the person who
finally made the motion to look ahead to the location on the
highway, instead of trying to build on Main Street. It would have
meant demolishing 3 other old buildings and adding even more
to the cost of a new building, just in preparing the site for
construction. Now, we will see where this goes.
So I am very pleased that the other shareholders are behind
us. It is exciting and a little scary but I know we can get it done.
So, my dear Sparkers, pretend this venture is your weight loss
journey. It is scary to try something new. It is daunting to think
of how far you have to go. But if you take it one step at a time,
even so, you will get there in the end. We all have fears of
failure but let's keep moving forward. Together, we can do it.
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful evening.
