I took my sister for her colonoscopy today. Technically a friend of mine drove us to the hospital. But I was there for emotional and practical support (holding her bag and clothing!). I took my pain meds, and wore my back brace and was very very careful with movement.
For my sister, the prep of drinking bottles of stuff to clean you out started the day before. Today, the prepping right before, the actual colonoscopy procedure and then recovery took about 2 hours. The doctor met with both of us afterwards. They found nothing wrong and my sister was deemed to have a healthy gastrointestinal system. The doctor said she did notice some very faint bumps, barely noticeable, but based on her knowledge and experience, they meant nothing, and certainly would not cause the kind of abdominal pain my sister had been experiencing. Still, she took biopsies just to double-check but honestly felt there was nothing to worry about. She felt my sister's system was one of the healthiest she's seen.
She even gave my sister the go-ahead to eat dinner tonight, which we happily went off to do!
One of the wonderful things about this today was also that my sister did not experience any pain at all during the procedure. She was actually pretty knocked out from the anesthesia. This was a dramatic difference for both of us when we each had colonoscopies done years ago. Back then, we were awake through the whole procedure with little medication, and the experience was akin to having your insides ripped out like vivisection.
I spoke with my sister a half hour ago, and she is still feeling fine from the experience today.
With all the bloodwork, scans, xrays, sonograms, and now this test today, NOTHING WRONG has shown up as to what caused her abdominal pain. Actually, my sister said she's been feeling the last two weeks that the pain has actually been getting less and less. She believes that God has healed her, and I do too! So we're praying for guidance about next steps. But both of us are feeling at peace and generally feeling much better and more positive about everything! God is good!
I was thinking of this Scripture today:
Psalm 55:22 "Cast your burden on the Lord, releasing the weight of it and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail)."
This is why I love the Lord. He is not just the God I worship and seek to honor. He's not a "religion." His will and His HEART are in His Word. These are examples of the cry of God's heart:
Isaiah 49:15-16 "And the Lord answered, Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, they may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have indelibly imprinted (tattooed a picture of) you on the palm of each of My hands"
Jeremiah 3:19 "How gladly would I treat you like My children and give you a pleasant land, the most beautiful inheritance of any nation. I thought you would call me ‘Father’ and not turn away from following Me".
Psalm 27:8 "You [Lord] have said, Seek My face; inquire for and require My presence as your vital need."
Psalm 105:4 "Seek, inquire of and for the Lord, and crave Him and His strength; seek and require His face and His presence evermore."
Matthew 23:37 "How often would I have gathered your children together as a mother fowl gathers her brood under her wings..."
This is my God, the God who longs for relationship with us; my loving Heavenly Father who encourages me to call Him "Abba (Daddy)" and who also acts on my behalf, Who takes care of me as His very own child. This is my Jesus, the One who said He will never leave me or forsake me, Who would be with me always, Who covered my sins and mistakes and took my place at the cross so I could be with Him forever in eternity. This is the Jesus Who came, not to condemn me and make me feel worthless, but Who came to make me feel loved, Who said that He came that I might have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance - to the full, till it overflows.
This is the same Jesus that will do the same for anyone who calls on His name. How can I not get excited about a God like that?
Lord, we love You and we praise You, and we thank You for Your goodness and Your care today! Thank You for answering our prayers! We bless You Lord with all our hearts!
Have a blessed evening folks!
