Spring Fever with Tazzy Walk/Run
Thursday, March 14, 2013
Spring really needs to stop being a tease! In the last 4 days we’ve had rain, snow, hail, sun, windy, calm, and temps from 55 to 8! I mean I understand that Chicago weather changes by which way the seagulls fly and if someone sneezes in the Hancock but come on!!
Yesterday evening we had SUN!! It was 30’s so chilly but SUN!! Big bright yellow thing in the sky! So I got home and took Tazzy for her walk/run. That dog has spring fever worse than I do. Did you know a 77 lb dog can jump 5 ft in the air, twist around in mid air, and land running backwards? It was news to me but quite entertaining. Then we got to the bridge and she must have wanted to see the cars because she was up on her hind legs. On the way down she decided it was time to run.
Now, I’m a dog trainer. A very good one, according to my clients. I normally control walks. I know it doesn’t sound it by my blogs, but I tend to only share the funny stuff. Who wants to hear about 3 miles with a dog at heel? I also know my dog gear. I know better than to use the skijoring (pulling) harness with a hand leash. I should also know better than attaching a hand leash to my belt. Obviously I do not.
I think we hit mach 3 by the time we were at the base of the bridge. I think I took 4 steps on the way down. We rounded the first bend and she came to a full stop! There was a huge flock of geese. Tazzy went nuts trying to catch geese that were running and trying to take off in all directions. I actually got hit by a few wings. Nothing serious but give me a break.
Obviously this sprint and goose chase was exhausting to Miss Tazzy Monster. She walked very nicely the rest of the way home.
When I got home, my side was really hurting (thus the majority of the walk, not run). I changed and noticed a huge bruise on my left side! I don’t know if this was dog, goose, belt, or leash but I am having a hard time moving my mid-section this am. Bonus is that my posture is better than it has been in a long time!
Ok, so this am they are predicting snow. Wish me luck on getting my walks in. Have a great day all.
Warm Wags and Happy Snuffles!
