Spring Fever with Tazzy Walk/Run

Thursday, March 14, 2013

Spring really needs to stop being a tease! In the last 4 days we’ve had rain, snow, hail, sun, windy, calm, and temps from 55 to 8! I mean I understand that Chicago weather changes by which way the seagulls fly and if someone sneezes in the Hancock but come on!!

Yesterday evening we had SUN!! It was 30’s so chilly but SUN!! Big bright yellow thing in the sky! So I got home and took Tazzy for her walk/run. That dog has spring fever worse than I do. Did you know a 77 lb dog can jump 5 ft in the air, twist around in mid air, and land running backwards? It was news to me but quite entertaining. Then we got to the bridge and she must have wanted to see the cars because she was up on her hind legs. On the way down she decided it was time to run.

Now, I’m a dog trainer. A very good one, according to my clients. I normally control walks. I know it doesn’t sound it by my blogs, but I tend to only share the funny stuff. Who wants to hear about 3 miles with a dog at heel? I also know my dog gear. I know better than to use the skijoring (pulling) harness with a hand leash. I should also know better than attaching a hand leash to my belt. Obviously I do not.

I think we hit mach 3 by the time we were at the base of the bridge. I think I took 4 steps on the way down. We rounded the first bend and she came to a full stop! There was a huge flock of geese. Tazzy went nuts trying to catch geese that were running and trying to take off in all directions. I actually got hit by a few wings. Nothing serious but give me a break.

Obviously this sprint and goose chase was exhausting to Miss Tazzy Monster. She walked very nicely the rest of the way home.

When I got home, my side was really hurting (thus the majority of the walk, not run). I changed and noticed a huge bruise on my left side! I don’t know if this was dog, goose, belt, or leash but I am having a hard time moving my mid-section this am. Bonus is that my posture is better than it has been in a long time!

Ok, so this am they are predicting snow. Wish me luck on getting my walks in. Have a great day all.

Warm Wags and Happy Snuffles!

Thanks. I've been self involved in the pity party today and your blogs brought me back up! This one took the cake! Can't believe you got goosed! Didn't get the reference in your later blog of course, but now it makes sense! Hope your side is better! I think I would've totally freaked out! I don't like any birds much.

You can come visit me, this weekend will be sunny and 70's! emoticon
I will be outdoors Sat after work and most of Sunday doing yard clean-up work! I 'm sure I have a rake that will fit your hand! Not my favorite thing to do, but it is good exercise! I will get a couple of walk/runs in too.

I am hoping it warms up enough by early afternoon to take Zeus out for his first "spring" walk. He just shivers when he is outside, and refuses to wear boots or socks... I know that if his feet were warm, he would like outside better. But that's what I get for getting a "cat/dog", lol.

I hope you heal quickly from your walk, you know Tazzy is going to expect more... emoticon

That's what I've always hated about the Chicago area... the weather. There's construction and winter.

Cute about the dog jumping 5 ft. My daughter got an adovable small to midsize shepherd mix that can jump to my shoulders when I come in. (She usually pees when she sees me too.. but that is getting better.) I told her we have to train this girl to jump through hurdles and more.
    Thanks for sharing!!

I hope the weather is nice for your weekend, no matter what it predicted. I know Tazzy didn't mean to get you hurt, but intention doesn't really matter to the pain. I hope you feel better tomorrow morning. Maybe it's a good thing it will be your late day.

That was quite the adventure! I am soooooo sick of winter.

It sounds like you had quite the walk / run! Sorry you got hurt but I think I would have liked to have seen Tazzy's antics and you trying to keep up with her. No chance of snow here but 20% chance of rain tomorrow, 40% Saturday and 60% on Sunday. I hope your bruise goes away and you feel better soon!

Haha! Crazy Tazzy! I love hearing about her exploits. I hope spring comes soon for you, before she puts you in a body cast!

Gotta' love that Tazzy! Too funny! (only because you weren't seriously hurt!) Sounds like some of the walks I had with Missy when she was very young! Hope your bruise heals soon! Hugs, Karen

Sounds like a fun adventure! I have had a week off walks after I did surgery on Lucky's leg. Your blogs make me miss walking them since I can't bring myself to walk one without the other! Thank god I can walk my dogs off leash on the beach. I'm not sure I'd survive attaching my big boy to my belt if he saw a kite surfer or dirt bike!

Amen on all accounts from everyone. Im glad you were not badly hurt! you had me laughing. Your dogs's antics sound a lot like mine.

I love Skilling! Sometimes he can really carry on and I think "hurry up just give me the bleeping temp for today already!" But he's a Chicago treasure! I always watch!

My dog has major spring fever too!

LOL You poor thing! You are right though. I have three small dogs and they have been barking at me ALL day! All I can think is they must have Spring fever. Especially Mallie our 6 month Cavalier. She just wants to goooooo!

That's awesome you are a dog trainer. How does one do that because let me tell you...I'm probably the worst at training my kids and husband, let alone 3 dogs.

I am feeling the same way about this weather! It's hard after being near 70 degrees and back down to 30 and very windy. Sunshine would go crazy after those geese ...She barks at wind a matter of fact she is barking at the wind now lol emoticon

Having grown up in suburban Chicago, you're right! If you don't like the weather right now, just wait 5 minutes and it'll change. I still get WGN news and watch Tom Skilling's weather forecast. I get such a kick out of it! At least he's pretty reliably accurate. Not so much around here! Oh well.

Too funny! I have this mental picture of Tazzy jumping and then running backwards! Hope your side ache goes away quickly! UGH

HUGS to you and hope it's a good Thursday.

Ah, don't ya just love Chicago weather? I've got 5 coats in my closet for various temperatures and conditions, and I think I've worn all of them in the past 2 weeks.

Sounds like a VERY uneventful walk!
I think everybody is ready for spring, now, and I hope it starts soon.

    Big emoticon
