Food Food Food! (17 Day Streak)

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

In a recent post on the "Happiness Project" (Gretchen Rubin), the author asked if we agree or disagree on the following: "often it takes discipline to take pleasure"...

I guess... I agree, for the most part! But I have to say that I can also take great pleasure without discipline.... I have numerous example of that. In the blog, she mentioned that she has to push herself to start doing what she enjoy doing... I tend to disagree with that, effort or not, when I take a lot pleasure doing something I like, I get pretty upset if I skip or I can't do it... like my yoga class or running. Not only it feels good but it makes me feel good too!

Ok, this post is about food... so what about food?

I take pleasure tasting new food, new recipes and eating! Does it take discipline... I guess so because if I take too much pleasure, guess what... this emoticon is how I feel!

With St-Pat Day approaching (17 March!), I decided that I would do a 17 Day Streak of "in range eating" and aiming for a differential of 300 daily... to get me until Easter weekend!
So back to some discipline but not cutting off on pleasure!

Just for the visual (you are not adding any cal by just looking!), here are some nice dishes I tried during my last trip to Mexico!

Appetizer - Tomato salad - loved the presentation... so fresh!

Main: Grilled Salmon with veggies! Yummi!!!!

Dessert: White chocolate cake... and the unusual...

...Crickets! I actually tried this on a chip with mole sauce, and it was not bad.
Crunchy to say the least!

Now the next day and the weekend to come might be a challenge on my streak but that is part of the fun, isn't it?

Ok.... all of the food looked really good until I came to the crickets picture. I am sure it is a delicacy in some countries but I just could not do it. Kudos to you for giving it a try.

I did not give a second thought before trying the crickets (and maybe I should be more cautious!!! ) besides, I let Jeff try it before me and he did not seem to mind it! emoticon

Bags of crickets (like snacks) were for sale in that food store... but it was not tasty enough to spend on that kind of treat - I bought cocoa powder, chipotle dry habanero peppers and mole sauce instead!

I have seen the places crickets go and i would need to see where they were prepared and it these are cricket raised just for food or if they just go out and round up crickets.
I would eat one though if i had nothing else to eat regardless of where it came from. I have watched the wilderness survival programs and seen them eat more revolting things than crickets. emoticon

Thanks for posting and for your motivation - please keep us posted along the way! I came to the realization earlier this week that everything is going great for me fitness wise, but I'm not being disciplined enough about eating in range and my results are stalling. On day 4 so far in range. So if you don't mind I'm gonna tag along and try for the 17 days in range too.

You had me until the last, I'll need a lot of discipline to eat crickets.
