Only 20 Minutes

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Today's challenge on Spark Coach was to make my meals last 20 minutes and to not eat while watching TV or using the computer. Okay I thought I can do this. But I have been eating in front of the TV for years. In fact the only time I turn it on during the day is to keep me company while I eat. So I started out with breakfast, a bowl of cream of wheat. I did not turn the NEWS on and ate as slowly as I could putting the spoon down between bites but there was no way I could make that last 20 minutes.

Now for lunch I thought I would try to lick this thing. I started out cutting 4 stalks of celery in to bite size pieces and eating them with ranch dip. I then ate 2 slices of the fresh loaf of rye bread I bought today. I ended my meal with 6 oz of yogurt. I chewed every bite until it was much, not some thing I am use to doing. I did not turn the TV on to watch the afternoon NEWS. Well I did it I made that meal last 20 minutes.

Now I am getting ready to cook and eat dinner. I am making stir fried chicken and vegetable with steamed rice. I am putting a lot of vegetables in this meal so I can have two servings. I am only eating one cup of rice. I am going to eat every bite until it is mush. I am going to use chop sticks, some thing I am fairly good with. I am going to take sips of diet coke between every other bite. I am not turning the TV on to watch the evening NEWS. I bet this meal lasts more then 20 minutes.

I hope nothing important went on today like maybe getting a new Pope.

This is something I need to work on. I ate my dinner tonight, which was hand held in tortillas while walking around the house. I was picking things up to keep up on clutter. I come to realise I NEVER just focus on the meal unless I am out to eat with friends. The conversation makes it last longer. You have inspired me to use up that 20 minutes EVERY time it is available to me. Thanks so much for sharing!

emoticon Keep it up!! I have to constantly tell myself to slow down and quit eating so fast. Some days I do better than others. I have also been trying to make my meals last 15-20 minutes. emoticon

Good job on your lunch! You've taken the first step! I personally have a hard time chewing my food 30 or more times. Guess I could work on that. Good luck with your dinner tonight. I have no doubt that you will once again surpass your lunch timeline.

Not sure I could make Cream of Wheat last for 20 minutes there's really nothing there to chew, and it would be so cold by the time you would get done.
You are doing a great job emoticon

Pssttt ... we have a new Pope! Good news, he'll still be the Pope tomorrow! He's from Argentina. Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76. He will be called "Francis". Now, you are all caught up. Enjoy your dinner! You're doing a GREAT job!

I also have a hard time eating at the table. Did a challenge with that in it. Maybe I should make a new one...
It is hard to chew something to death. I was told you should chew each bite for 50 chews. Talk about mush..
Good luck. You seem to be doing good on the eating part..but the celery and rye bread with nothing on it seems a little boring. How about baby carrots. They go good with a small amount of ranch dressing.
