I had my shoulder surgery yesterday. The doctor reshaped the AC joint and the end of the clavicle bone (collar bone) as expected. Her stitched up and cleaned up the rotator muscles, which was also expected but we hoped wasn't going to be necessary. The tears were very small which will make recovery easier. What was unexpected was torn cartilage and a large tear in the bicep tendon. Neither of these showed up on mt MRI much to our surprise! The doctor seemed as surprised as I at this turn of events, The doctor said that he was able to fix all of these issues fairly easily which will make my recovery time shorter. What the recovery time would actually be, he couldn't say yet until he sees me this coming Monday,
I am so glad that I went to all of the trouble of preparing my meals and doing all of the other things! This has greatly reduced the load placed upon hubby's shoulders. He is still very attentive but not as stressed or as confined to the house. My preparation has freed up a lot of his time and enabled me to eat and sleep on some kind of schedule. I have continued to eat healthy foods and make good food choices. Yea me!
I have to sleep sitting up, on my back which isn't very comfortable. I'm in quite a bit of pain, which so far has been controlled with medication. My doctor said that most of my pre-surgery pain and stiffness most likely came from the big tear in the bicep tendon. Even though I'm in a lot of pain now, I can feel the difference in the type of pain already! I take that as a very positive sign.
At my appointment on Monday, my doctor will start me on some very simple movement exercises. I can remove my bandages on Friday but can't shower or get the area wet until the doctor sees me. I'm glad that I got the body cleaning wipes and non rinse shampoo at the medical supply place because they will be necessary in the week to come!
Well, this one handed typing has tired me out! It's time to go heat up the chicken soup that I made on Monday. It will feel good on my sore throat (from the breathing tube) and will be very nourishing too.
A special thanks to everyone for all of their support and kindness - especially SLENDERELLA61. You've been great!
