Power Walking is it Wogging

Its finally getting nice around my neck of the country, at least a little warmer and the wind isn't gusting at 40 mph so there was no excuses that I couldn't get outside and walk this morning . The air had just enough of a bite to keep you invigorated and the morning was still and beautiful... I thought I was moving along at a brisk pace but my clock still says I come in at about 17 min. to a mile... My question is what is power walking then, for I donít' think with that kind of time I'm doing it.. Call me dumb but do I almost run or wog/jog (at least I think I know what that is) in order to call it a Power Walk or is it all about heart rate and not speed like the name applies...... emoticon

    Sounds like you are making great time no matter what label you put on it! I've heard, on more than one occasion, to get the most out of walking, it should be a bit of a challenge to hold a conversation.....or if you walk alone, sing. So it seems it is more about how the walk challenges you personally, rather than speed. Call it whatever you want. But please my dear Tia, don't ever call yourself dumb. emoticon

    I think the 17 min is great. Sometimes I think it is self-defeating to get too caught up in numbers. I know when I have worked out. It's funny, sometimes on my bike I breeze through at a fast clip and don't really strained, while other times my mph is much less and I feel like I could drop dead! There are a lot of factors going on...pay attention to what your body is saying--it knows if you've had a workout and isn't shy about telling!

    Good question. I've never thought it about it that way. I call my jogging a 'wog' because I walk and then jog back and forth. At a 'regular' pace that isn't winding me, I walk a mile in 20 mins. If I 'wog' then I get a mile done in 15 mins.

I don't think it really matters what we call it...as long as we are moving those feet. I'll be curious to see what others say about your question.

    If you are walking a mile in 17 minutes that's a good pace.

    I believe it's all about heart rate - a different pace for everyone although I'm sure there is some kind of a range.

I think of 17 min mile is impressive. . .I currently walk a 22 min mile naturally but can reach an 18.1 min mile if I concentrate. . . you have set for me my next walking pace goal emoticon
