15 lbs down since Thanksgiving

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Well looks like I'm now down 15lbs since Thanksgiving. I had signed up for this Maintain Don't Gain challenge at work where you didn't tried to lose, but tried to stay at your weight. The Monday after Thanksgiving I started feeling pretty crummy and left work early. Sick for a week. Well, what ever I had I didn't have much appetite for a few weeks after. I knew I had probably lost a little because of being sick, but thought Christmas would have gained it back.

At weigh in on Jan 3rd I'd lost 7lbs. So I decided I'd at least try to watch my calorie count, and horseback ride as much as possible. At that point I logged into SparkPeople after a period of absence so I could count calories. I got the flu and didn't lose any weight but it through a bit of a curve ball in there. Anyway, now I'm down just over 7lbs. 174.3 and now 159.8. Close enough for me to count as 15. I never would have thought getting sick would actually encourage me to lose weight. But there it is. emoticon

See that's the thing I was actually eating just regular stuff, no cravings for sweets. I'm pretty good at making sure I eat meals even when not hungry for whatever reason. I'm one of those people who loses appetite when stressed, so lots of practice when I have other reasons for appetite loss.

I say, Good for You! We need to encourage one another here, and though I am sorry you were sick, I am happy that you have lost that much weight! Adapting to a new lifestyle is never easy! People respond to being sick in different ways. Some people EAT, and others, don't. Keep up the good work of logging your calories and riding your horse! It is good for both YOU and the horse! emoticon

I don't believe I said that at all. I have no idea if the initial weight loss was the actual illness. I know the initial illness curbed my appetite for 3-4 weeks. This included sugar, I don't think I wanted anything sweet at all in that time period. Was I sick no, but I definitely wasn't horridly hungry either. As for the flu I didn't lose anything during that time. So the additional loss has been counting calories, not sickness. For me was the original illness part of this, yes I think so given my degraded appetite, particularly for sweet stuff.

So, your weight loss solution is illness?!?!?! (God, we need the interrobang!) Works short term but doesn't lead to a happy life LOL

Make Today a Great Day!
