First 10K

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

So i finished my first 10K. Now it wasn't easy and when the time got broken down it was the first three miles at an average of 11.01 per mile. But then my hip started hurting and my knee was aching so my last three were closer to 14 per mile. I ended at an average of 12.09 minute per mile. Not great, but I finished, and for that I have to be happy.

What upset me was when I see the picture from the five mile mark. I look tired, so much bigger than I think I am. You can tell I'm not running, I'm just trying hard to put one foot in front of the other. But isn't that what the whole point is. I didn't quit, I crossed the finish line, so why in my head do I feel like I failed.

To me you just look determined (and a little chillly). Be proud of yourself that you did the 10K and see how far you have come.

You did amazing! I hope to run a 10k someday, but right now I'm still working on a 5k. You finished and that is so great! I totally get feeling down for not doing as well as you thought you could. But you didn't quit and that is half the battle right there.

Sometimes, all we can do is put one foot in front of the other. What I see when I look at your picture is someone who is very determined to finish the race. Sometimes, life is about participating, no winning. Think, 6-10 months ago, would you have even attempted this? That change in your attitude is something to celebrate. Congratulations on finishing a 10-K!!!! That is awesome! emoticon
