Yesterday my hubby and I enjoyed the Polk Senior Games closing ceremonies. Almost everyone there had on medals; one woman had on 21 of them!! I heard the most won was 28 this year. We wore ours - his for chess and mine for running and walking. We got to meet the oldest competitor, 98 years old, and marvel at the winners in the 85-89 year age group running down the aisle to pick up their trophies. We got lots of give aways and goodies as well as four pictures of me participating. I'll try to scan and post them later. There is one I quite like of me near the end of a walking event. In the running photo I'm far from making it look effortless, but I'm doing it!
I ran with a new group last eve, too. The group is set up to help runners improve their time for the Mayfaire 5K on the evening of May 11th. The coach is an awesome fit woman who has made serious attempts at the Olympics in the not too distant past. Last eve I ran a local lake (2.84 miles) in 27.14 minutes. Some of the people are training for their first 5K; some are pretty fast already. I think I'm going to enjoy this coaching experience. I expect better times and even more joy to come from my running!!
Another fitness-related victory is that the YMCA asked to feature my Y story. So today Natalie, Gwen, and I are having our picture taken together. I'm not sure if we'll be on the Y wall or in the newsletter. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Tomorrow I commit to weigh again. I've stayed off the scale for since Saturday's competitions and haven't done as well eating as I'd like, but not too bad. My next race is April 13th. I'm not sure two weeks of cutting calories will get me to my happy weight, but maybe. Now is a good time to give it a good try!! I'll have several weeks then to eat optimum healthy maintenance to prepare for the next race.
