The Limes Spring Challenge group has a chatter box. A Limey asked what keeps us motivated. As I reflected on the past week I recognized small steps taken this past week:
*I went to the gym Saturday for a workout and completed 30 minutes of Elliptical along with increasing difficulty and speed.
*Sunday hub and I went to the gym with the intention on swimming. IN A SWIMSUIT! This is huge for me. Just going anywhere and exercising in front of anyone was a major turning point for me. I sat in the locker room in my bathing suit and texted my daughter for support. She sent me a silly face pic and said "do it!" I swam/exercised in the pool for 20 mins then got kicked out because the pool was closing (took me 15 minutes to get the courage).
*Hub and I have a habit of eating out as a treat, as a date night, as a way to avoid cleaning up (we both enjoy cooking/baking), etc. We avoided all meals out for 5 out of 6 nights. The 6th night was planned.
*I brought all lunches (and one dinner) to work even though Friday pizza is a standard for us three stuck working Fridays.
For me the starting point was taking care of the stuff INSIDE- learning to handle my emotions without eating them. Breaking bad habits and replacing with good habits was necessary- I wasn't successful just stopping the bad habits (eating healthier). I had to incorporate positive ACTION too (exercise).
For motivation, at this point, I keep looking for small successes, small changes to encourage myself to push harder, longer, and better.
My long term motivation: My "baby" is graduating high school in June 2014 ( I don't want to cringe every time I see a pic of us from that day), I want to start grad school while working full time, do volunteer work, and to have a more active life overall.
