A first for me...

Monday, March 11, 2013

I have been running since last year. I ran three 5k races last year. All of which I really enjoyed. Then I got thinking, maybe I could do a 10k. So, I started running more miles to get the mileage in... not so worried about time, just the mileage. I havent entered a 10k race yet.. that is my goal for this year. But i have another goal.... a Half-Marathon before the end of 2013. 13.1 miles is intimidating to me. I'm a 5k runner, a recreational runner, a runner who runs for fun and health... not a competitor. Not to mention, I really didnt believe I could run that far without dying. Well, this evening, for the first time in my 35 years of living, I ran 10 miles on the treadmil without walking, without stopping. I ran for almost 2 hours straight and I am still standing to blog about it. I can't begin to express my amazement and my excitement about what my body can do. I'm so excited to keep pushing and finding the limits. In running, though, I am not sure there are any.
I just wanted to share that this was a first for me. I have never in my whole life, EVER ran that far all at the same time. I am making progress I never knew about.

I'm not going to go into my story on the races I've done over the last 28 months. I'm an addict. BUT I will tell you that you can accomplish a 10K & a Half! It's all about training smart. I favor the interval run plan of Jeff Galloway! I've seen more runners embrace this plan at all levels up to Marathons, and Ultras! I also suggest that, when you can, start hitting outside training, and a bit of hill training as well. It will pay off in the end. Stay strong, focused, and cool runnings!
