What's on My Mind?

Monday, March 11, 2013

Oh, lots and lots of things. Spring break, for one. It starts Friday, and that's not soon enough, as far as I'm concerned. The students are restless and I'm getting tired. I don't have any big plans, just sleeping in, cleaning house, starting the garden work, watching some movies, reading. Oh, and doing my taxes.

I'm thinking about changing gyms. I really haven't gone much in the last 6-8 months, mostly because I've been dealing with Achilles tendonitis. But that's getting somewhat better, and I'd like to try to get back into a routine over break. I like the gym I had been going to. I feel comfortable there--most of the members are older, and it's linked to a physical therapy clinic, so if I ever injure myself again, I know there will be someone around who is trained to help. But it takes me about 15 minutes to get there from home, and the Friday-Sunday hours stink (closed at 8 on Friday, at 4 on Saturday, and closed all day Sunday). I'm notan early morning person, and I don't like going after work when the place is jammed, but since their hours (closed at 9 Mon-Thurs) don't make it easy for me to go in the evening or on weekends. Plus the monthly rate is $30 more than the new Planet Fitness that opened about two minutes' drive from home. And I believe PF is open 24/7. So I plan to check out PF this week. Unless it looks like I'll be surrounded by college-age kids (no offense, but I deal with them all day long) or unless the equipment there isn't as good as my old gym, I'll probably switch.

The other thing that has been on my mind is that I have no idea where the nearly 20 pounds I've lost since Christmas has come from. The scale shows it, but I don't think my body does. I'm not really noticing any difference in the way my clothes fit. But at least I am seeing better results in my blood pressure and BMI, and I'm just happy that things are finally starting to move in the right direction.

20 pounds is fantastic! Planet Fitness only two minutes away? That's a serious enticement. Maybe you can find hours where the co-eds are off to other shenanigans.

I have tried the gym 2 times. The first time I paid and Never went...this time I went for a few months and then stopped going! But still paying for it. As soon as this contract is over I'm done with the gyms. But hope the PF is a better fit for you!!

emoticon job on the 20 pounds. I will say this -- early on I just was not seeing the changes. Then I hit 30 pounds and compared a before and after picture and could really see it. I still can't see as much difference in those first few pictures. You'll get there.

Hope you get to thoroughly enjoy your break.

I gave up on gyms several years ago. Spent lot of money that I didn't get any use out of first though. LOL Whatever you are doing, it's working - so don't change much - I'm sure it will start to show. And a lower blood pressure is a great start.

Enjoy your break.

Ahhh, spring break.... mine isn't until the last week of March. I hope you thoroughly enjoy your break! I hear you about gyms too. Hours, costs, fellow members... mostly I don't like being around college age people because they're so.... silly. The conversation in the locker room is.... silly LOL Good luck with the decision!
