Great way to start a week

I'm following the Rookie 5K Your Way program. I've done Week 1 (walk four minutes, run 1 minute) twice. I just don't think I'm ready for Week 2 (walk 3 minutes, run 2 minutes), so this morning I walked four minutes and ran for 90 seconds. It worked. I'll probably have to do this for a few weeks before I can tackle Week 2's schedule.

The move to Daylight Savings Time means darkness in the morning and a later sunset. That benefits my commute. I can take a long route home and still make it to the house before twilight dims. I should be able to amp up my weekly mileage.

When I first started running voluntarily (as opposed to when I was in boot camp at 18), I weighed about 170 pounds. It was a lot easier to take up running at that weight, as opposed to now, when I'm carrying an extra thirty pounds of fuel. I keep that in the back of my head: this will get easier. Not only will my body be better tuned for running, but there will be less pounding it has to endure. That might be a better incentive to eat healthy than getting in to my skinny jeans. emoticon
