Our town will be having a 5k for our summer festival. In my head I have always wanted to do this but I am still obese and frankly a little scared. I have run/walked on the treadmill for 5k but it wasn't pretty! LOL! How do others train for something like this???

    The Mayo Clinic also has a program you can access on their website to prepare for a 5K. emoticon

    In addition to the aforementioned C25K program, get outside and walk. Just walk. Sign up for the 5k and walk it. Most races are indeed walker friendly.

    Try the couch2 5k program, and you can join the c25k spark team, it is set up to take 9 weeks but u can go at you own pace, basically doing intervals on the treadmill or out side, running for 1 min and walking for 2 min then upping the min you run each week.
