Couch to 5k or SparkPeople 5k Your Way Rookie???

Sunday, March 10, 2013

Sunday was a good day . I ate within calories, drank my water, and got in my cardio. I didnít realize how ready I was for spring until today. IT was 60 degrees and nice today. I was able to get in a 35 minutes walk with my youngest son. I am so ready for nice weather!!

So I was listening to SparkRadio and heard an older episode. They were interviewing a SP member whoís motivational moment was when she couldnít help her child learn to ride a bike. I can relate to that and Iím working to fix it.

I have been walking on my treadmill at a 9.0 incline to get in shape. I think Iím ready to start a running program. I thought I was going to use the Couch to 5K program but when I searched Spark Teams I see that thereís also a SparkPeople 5k Your Way Rookie program.

I donít have a smart phone and Iíll be training on a treadmill. I want to be able to run a 5k by the spring so I can be ready to help my son learn to ride a bike (when heís ready).

So whatís the difference? Which one is better?

Any information you can provide would be appreciated.

I started back with the C25K yesterday. I really like the program. I may have to look up the Sparkpeople 5K Training program.

I tried using the SparkPeople 5K training, and it didn't work as well for me. I also tried it on the treadmill, and you have to watch the clock for your intervals. I downloaded the NHS Couch to 5K podcast and used that on my iPod. This worked well for me because I ran outside and the narrator would tell you when to run and when to walk. The music wasn't too bad either.

There are a few other podcasts out there, and most are free. I'd suggest listening to a few and seeing which ones appeals to you. Or give the SP plan a go. It's all trial and error!
