This week, one of my spark teams challenged me to try new things in order to shake up my routine. I have to admit I've had a lot of fun thinking of new things to try. Here are some of the things I've done:
-tried a water aerobics class
-tried a zumba class
-tried a spin class (which I've always been extremely intimidated by)
-tried a cardio sculpting class
-restarted couch to 5k (I completed the program in 2011, but haven't been running since)
-tried new methods of strength training
-went bowling twice
-challenged my kids to dance contests using "just dance" and the xbox kinect
-kept up my daily walking, but varied my routes
-walked to work instead of driving (6 miles round trip)
-tried farro for the first time in a vegetarian bi bim bap dish
-tried eating protein bars to see how that affects my energy and my hunger levels.
-made several new recipes, including honey cinnamon roasted chickpeas, butternut squash and goat cheese pizza, and breakfast quinoa with berries and almonds.
-took time for self-care (meditation, relaxation, drawing, reading, setting intentions)
-connected with friends
-introduced myself to people at the gym
-talked myself *into* exercising when it would have been really easy to talk myself out of it
-went to a conference and started thinking more seriously about potential career paths when I'm ready to get back in the game later this year.
All in all, I'd say it's been a very successful and really fun week. I am a little bit concerned because the scale seems to be stuck at the moment, but as long as it's not going up, I'll be happy. I'm very tempted to make the claim that since I've been working out so much more intensely this past week, I must be building muscle, but I'm skeptical...
