Walking for Awareness
Sunday, March 10, 2013
Once again, I'm just getting home after leaving my house at 7:30 this morning. I played at the 2 services, ran some errands and then returned to church.
A group of 10 women (including 2 teenagers and one associate ministers) walked in honor of Harriet Tubman. In addition to honoring Tubman's life and work as a "conductor" on the famous Underground Railroad, the walk was also meant to raise awareness of high obesity rates among black women.
We made a commitment to walk for 100 minutes. We left our church at 4:30 and walked the local Heritage Trail. It was a beautiful day to walk; the temperature was great, the sun was out and there were LOTS of people walking, running, skating and skateboarding on the trail. Everyone in our group walked at their own pace and we arrived back at 6:10.
Now I must wrap my head around the idea of going back to work. Lots to do (I didn't grade a single paper the entire 3 days we were off -oops. It's not like my students did any homework during that time period!)
