Time for some serious outdoor walking

Sunday, March 10, 2013

Wow, it's been a while since my last post. I've had a cold or something for about 10 days now. It's not really bad which makes me wonder if it is an allergy cause by all the dry grass turning to dust over here (we have a drought at the moment). So my enthusiasm has been lacking but I've managed to keep up my food and treadmill routines.

On the matter of walking. My wife and I bought some day packs this weekend in preparation for a new hobby we hope to get into this year. Scenic day trekking. There are plenty of attractive walks through native bush only a few minutes from where we live. As someone who grew up on a farm with this sort of environment all around I have missed it as an adult. This is probably one of the main reason why I play Airsoft.

We've been accumulating trekking gear since xmas, mostly safety and survival gear, (you can never be too prepared when out in nature), along with some camping equipment. We'll be loading up the packs with water tonight and going for out first trial walk up our local mountain. (It's only wee, no snow, people jog up it everyday). I might even include out diet protein shakes so we can have "dinner" at the top.

Hopefully the packs will be nice and comfy and it will be a wonderful start to a new form or exercise which will get me off the treadmill and out of my garage. :)

Cheers guys! The walk was great. The day packs worked well and we are looking forward to our first proper bush trek which will hopefully be squeezed into this weekend.
