It's been six weeks now since I broke my leg. I'd been hoping I might get the plaster cast removed when I attended the fracture clinic on Friday, but unfortunately, the bone isn't healing very well so I had a new cast put on instead and was told to go back in two weeks. :-(
However, there are two good things for which I am thankful:
1. I'm allowed to return to work tomorrow. (Whilst it might seem nice to have time off work without being ill, it's actually frustrating, boring and lonely if you live alone and particularly when the things I love doing most are running, swimming, getting out in the hills, visiting friends etc which I can't do with a broken leg).
2. I have seen quite a marked improvement since I had the new cast on Friday. In just two days I've gone from barely being able to put my left foot on the ground to actually being able to walk on it a little. This is so encouraging!
I know I must be careful and I probably overdid it a bit today by walking / hobbling with my crutches for almost an hour, but it was a sunny (albeit bitterly cold) day and I felt really good to be out in it. My ankle is protesting a little, so I'd better be extra nice to it this evening and tomorrow. I'm just so eager to do some proper exercise and not lose any more fitness!
But, as I've got work in the morning, I'd better go and make my packed lunch and make sure I've got everything ready.
For those of you in the UK - Happy Mother's Day!
Actually, for those of you not in the UK, you can have a Happy Mother's Day too - we can never be too grateful to those who have loved and cared for us, can we?!
