Get moving

Sunday, March 10, 2013

Today I was up before dawn and a little unsure if I could do what I set out to do, but all I kept focusing on was to get moving. My original goal was to ride my bike up to the coffee shop just down the road. I felt that it was attainable so I felt pretty confident in that. Then as we sat there at the coffee shop, I thought well the local park is only two miles away. Once we arrived at the park, I was invigorated. I was feeling very confident at that point. Then my husband mentioned that the local bike shop was just around the corner so we pushed on. A nice surprise was that we passed one of the bike trail entrances on our way to the bike shop. We purchased a couple of bike accessories and then we were off. We jumped on to the bike trail and took one of the most grueling bike rides (against the wind), I have been on in a long time. We are back home now and the mileage logged was 17.3 miles and I am exhausted. But I have to say, it is one of the most satisfying feelings of exhaustion I have ever felt. My message to you is GET MOVING! You will be so glad you did.

When I'm stuck indoors due to weather situations, I pull out my bands and stable ball. I know it's not like being outdoors, but you just have to move. No matter how little; just move. We get so comfortable sometimes with just sitting there due to other contributing situations, but if we put our minds to it, we can find creative ways to get moving, even indoors. A couple of weekends ago it was raining here in Sunny Florida. It was gloomy and my son was bored to death. I had a lot of dusting to do and I didn't feel like doing it alone. I made a game out of it. I challenged him to a dusting match. I bet him an hour extra of game time that I could beat him dusting an entire wall of bookshelves. He won of course, but he is younger...wink...wink. It was a frenzy and lots of fun.

Good for you. That sounds like a little piece of heaven. I've been having a difficult day, but reading about your journey makes me think about all the fun I'll be able to have biking once the snow is gone.
