What's On My Mind

Sunday, March 10, 2013

During this past weekend, the Biggest Loser Challenge has had an activity called "Horsin' Around on the BLC Ranch" and one way to earn points is to write a blog called "What's On Your Mind".

I am always thinking about a balance between work, working out, and spending time in ways that I find personally fulfilling. I would love to spend more time reading and listening to classical music but I am not willing to give up working out and sparking.
I am hoping to join the Captain ranks on BLC-22 and that will require more time but I think it's high quality time. Any time spent thinking about the one subject that was "verboten" to my mind for so many decades---my health, my appearance (by which I mean weight); my ability to use my body so that I can salvage something in my old age instead of angrily stuff myself to death--well that is time well spent. It's time well-spent not merely for myself but for those around me.

I try to get a lot of Spark Points every day--not just for the empty sake of points but because "sparking" leads me to discover new topics in the articles or new ideas on the message boards.

It's not what I ever expected of myself, but I want to keep sparking. There's a point when I exercise and now when I eat when things just "click" into place. With practice, difficulties have become habits.

And that's what's on my mind: maintaining these habits and knowing that exercise makes me a little bit kinder to others, a little bit more patient with others, a little bit more companionable for my husband, and a little less invested in a murky future and more in the here-and-now.

And that's not just horsing around! The BLC challenges always offer something to get me thinking and moving. They are well-worth it.

Thanks for dropping by the Panther chat thread and giving me the opportunity to check your page out! I couldn't agree more (though I couldn't have expressed as well) about the acquisition of points -- gaining them on a daily basis is also gaining insight and new thoughts and information.

Your thoughts are certainly more interesting than mine. Horses grazing on grains. I was thinking about popcorn. LOL.

I love horses - even just pictures of them! A friend purchased a mustang from the BLM recently and I have been enjoying her experiences - vicariously of course.

    A Blessing
By James Wright (1927–1980)

Just off the highway to Rochester, Minnesota,
Twilight bounds softly forth on the grass.
And the eyes of those two Indian ponies
Darken with kindness.
They have come gladly out of the willows
To welcome my friend and me.
We step over the barbed wire into the pasture
Where they have been grazing all day, alone.
They ripple tensely, they can hardly contain their happiness
That we have come.
They bow shyly as wet swans. They love each other.
There is no loneliness like theirs.
At home once more,
They begin munching the young tufts of spring in the darkness.
I would like to hold the slenderer one in my arms,
For she has walked over to me
And nuzzled my left hand.
She is black and white,
Her mane falls wild on her forehead,
And the light breeze moves me to caress her long ear
That is delicate as the skin over a girl’s wrist.
Suddenly I realize
That if I stepped out of my body I would break
Into blossom.

Not much on riding these beautiful horses...but would love to be in the field watching them run and play!
