Celebrating Life

Sunday, March 10, 2013

While in college, I've been a four year member of our University's marching band.

On Thursday, the wife of one of our directors passed away unexpectedly. Her visitation and funeral are this afternoon, and the entire band was invited. I've never been to a funeral before, and wasn't sure going would be appropriate, so I stayed home.

Instead, I'm wearing yellow and celebrating life. Instead of flowers, the family has established a scholarship fund for the band. To me, that indicates that they're focusing on using her death to keep good going. Mrs. Anne was an incredibly kind, sweet woman, and I think she would want us all to honor her by living our lives as well as we know how to.

So today, I'm crocheting shawls while prayerfully and lovingly thinking of the family of the deceased. Maybe this is even more inappropriate than not going to the services - I don't know. But it's what feels right...

Sorry for your loss...and I'm sure this beautiful lady would appreciate the way you are "celebrating" her life!
