Back After Baby

Sunday, March 10, 2013

I'm trying to get back into the groove after having a baby in December. If I thought I had time constraints before having a child, I was in for a shock. I wanted to start back up a couple of weeks ago while I was still home on maternity leave. However, I was waiting to be cleared by my doctor since I had a c-section. Then I started work, and I needed to find a way to manage my time.

Now that I will be starting my 4th week back to work, I have an idea of how to manage my time. I know things always come up, but I need to not use excuses. My son will be 11 weeks old tomorrow, and although we have somewhat of a routine (when he goes to bed for the night), I know that changes when they hit milestones, growth spurts, and teething. If all I can get in for a day is a 10 minute walk or marching in place while rocking the baby, then at least I did something.

I need to remember that small steps are OK. I was running a couple of times a week before getting pregnant. I haven't gone for a run since April 2012. I need to remember that I can't just pick up where I left off. I have to start again. And I need to be OK with that.

Mel - Hubby is doing great. It was hard at first, but now that Max is cooing and smiling and whatnot, Chris is having an easier time connecting! Max definitely has an awesome birthday. I had him at 8:04am, and the rest of the day was a blur with pain meds!

Mom2or - I can't wait to start using my treadmill. We're currently packing up since we close on a house in a month, so my treadmill is packed away in the corner surrounded by packed boxes! I think once Max has better head control, the exersaucer will be great. He loves his bouncy seat and play gym, so I know I can use those as well. With work, I'm gone from 8-6, so it's evening work outs for me (I am not a morning person, despite how well I've been handling nightly feedings).

First of all, congrats on the birth of your son!!!! I have a 4 month old. I know all about trying to juggle the time. And when my son goes down at night, I like to follow shortly after because I know he will be back up before I want to be!! I tend to work out after I feed him and know he is 100% satisfied. I will put him in his saucer, his chair or on the playmat and he's fine. And you're right, even if it's only for 10 minutes, at least you are working out!! And maybe you can try for 3 10 minute intervals whenever you get the chance? You don't necessarily have to work out for 30 minutes straight to feel the burn and get the most out of it. Good luck!!! emoticon

Oh my gosh he is adorable! Congrats to you & your family!

I think you have a very realistic view on your goals. I would agree not to push yourself right now, especially until the doc clears you.

What an awesome birthday Max has! Christmas eve, how cool is that?

Glad to hear you & baby are doing well. How's hubby been handling everything?
