The trials of a new driver and mom's car!

Saturday, March 09, 2013

So on Wed this week we had what Western North Carolina thinks is a bad storm. Yes it was really cold, yes it was very windy 60-70 mph, yes we had ice and snow but, it was not a blizzard by any means!

The husband was sick and did not work the 15 year olds school closed because of ice. The college was open, so the boys decided to take me to work so the could have my car. I said ok but asked that Caleb not drive, he has no experience on icy roads.

Boys will be boys and guess what? They decided practice in a parking lot would be a good idea. Let me tell you first this is my car and has only 7 payments on it. Yes think the worse!

OUCH!

Double Ouch!

I have to tell say, this is the very first car I have picked out myself for me. Granted the husband detailed it out, but for me, to my name being on the back!
You may say oh that's not bad, well yesterday they called for the collision center over 9,000 dollars worth of damage. The frame is bent. Yep all they were doing was practicing in a parking lot how to drive on ice. Oh did I tell you they hit a tree, and bent the frame of the car!

The boys they are fine, the air bags did not deploy the seat belts locked down is all. I work for the insurance company, pretty much was told yesterday to expect it to be totaled. So needless to say, I know do not have my own car, not sure as to when I will. The insurance pays off the car, does not give me a down payment for a new one.

It stinks, so does all the emotions I am having, working through them, dont get me wrong I am glad the boys are not hurt. But I am, emotionally maybe it is a girl thing, I dont know just working through it!

Sassy out!

Ugh. Hope you are able to come up with a way to get a new car that you love even more. :)

I hate it when life happens.

emoticon I can see you suppressing your disappointment. I am glad the boys are ok, but it is ok to be a little upset and disappointed. You will get over it, but you don't have to get over it now. I know I would be disappointed. It will work out.

Glad your guys are ok, but so sorry about your car. emoticon I do understand how you feel. The hubby wrecked mine, & it's been around 5 years now that I've been without a car. So I totally understand emoticon

So glad the boys are okay. I understand how upsetting it is to lose your car and not know how you're going to replace it any time soon. I will pray and ask the Lord to provide and to reveal His provision to you.

Think of it another way, they were in a parking lot, they hit a tree, they are okay. No One's vehicles involved, no lives taken away, they weren't on the road.

In there defense, they chose the right location to practice driving on ice, just wasn't able to do it, yet.

Yes, I agree they should help with payments for a car for you and save for a car for them.

Oh Lori, I am happy and sad. Glad your boys are ok, but sad about your car. It must be so disappointing to have the car paid off and not any way to get a replacement. Your emotions are ok. I am glad you wrote about it as it helps to work them through by doing that. Know you are a special lady and we love you much.

Usually those things happen right AFTER you've paid it off. I'm really sorry that it did happen at all. I think the boys have learned a lesson but they should probably start working to help you make payments on a new car. My daughter's car was totalled a few months ago when a man who should have turned his license in pulled out in front of her so we have been sharing a car and what a pain that is! I would actually think the car had more value than just the few payments you had left on it but I don't know much about insurance.
