What a beautiful day we've had, the first really nice day in I-can't-remember-how-long. We all packed into the car (husband and me, kiddo, in-laws) and went to the lake and got some exercise on the jogging path there. It was grand. I think we'll do it again tomorrow.
(People who find running boring can leave now. :p )
I wound up running 25 minutes of the first lap, with kiddo in tow on his bicycle, so it was a lot of "stopping" (I tended to jog in place) and starting whenever he got tired. And once I was done running I wound up having to carry the bicycle for about five minutes, ugh! The entire lap of 3.05 miles took only 45 minutes, though, which was faster than I had expected. I've been running on my treadmill at home, which has no working display, but remembering back to when the display WAS working I was pretty sure the 5.0 mph I've been putting into SP for all my running sessions up to now was really overgenerous.
Turns out not! Or at least, I'm actually capable of running that fast, whether I've been doing it on the treadmill or not. Once I estimated a walking pace for my son and me and calculated it out, the 25 minutes I ran today was at an average of at worst 11.3 minutes per mile, significantly faster than the 12.0 pace that equates to 5 mph. And that despite all the stoppage. (I also had to break once to tie my shoes.) Better than I had expected, really even better than I had hoped. I even got in another ten minutes running (in a couple five minute sessions) after we all met up back together and I wandered off for a bit on my own.
35 minutes! Unreal. I'm pretty sure I haven't run that long in a single day since before I was pregnant with my son, so at least seven years; and I definitely haven't run that far at once and felt this good doing it. I still feel so far from where I want to be, and I still have to constantly temper my expectations to match with reality, but dang. I'm really doing it. It's a very long time since I've been so happy just running as I was today.
