Non-sappy Non-sickly quotes about love or partnership or marriage?

Saturday, March 09, 2013

Our table decorations are going to be piles of old books, wrapped with ribbon and a flower, with an old fashioned luggage tag with a quote on it.

I have quotes from a Hunter-Killer assassin droid from a Star Wars game, a quote from Skyrim, one from Gormenghast ....

...not sickly cutesy ones, gushing nonsense ones...

That's not us.

If anybody has anything neat to share (I'm still searching for an acceptable quote from the Songs of Fire and Ice books... but not an easy task) please share!

I am not looking for bible quotes though, we have one, and that is all we would like thank you respectfully.
(1 Corinthians 13:4 but not the full verse)

Any ideas?

are there any lyrics from favourite songs that would work? my husband made a mix of love songs that suited us and there are lots of quotables in that mix, for sure! try to stay as unstressed as possible during this planning and enjoy it as much as you can.

Oh, I love the book idea!

So glad you're not going into marriage with "fairytale glasses" on. Marriage is great, but it is a partnership filled with mundane events. So many women expect the "Cinderella" lifestyle from start to finish.

You might like the book "into the garden" my celebrant recommended it for our service planning.

No quotes for you but I do love the idea. Looking forward to seeing pictures from your wedding!

Oh, you have brought a smile to my face! emoticon I have some great words of wisdom that I would love to share with certain individuals on Planet Earth. None unfortunately are coming to your wedding. Besides the ever appropriate although unimaginative "Kiss my a$$" that I would like to tell a few, I would be tempted to Google my favorite comic for quotes and use some of those. Of course all Douglas Adams quotes are good. emoticon

I'll keep my eyes open too. Why is it whenever I try to remember a good quote, my mind goes blank? Love your table decorations.

    Aha! A challenge!

Okay, I don't find this first one cheesy, but you might. Take a look further down though:

W. Shakespeare

LET me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:—

O no! it is an ever-fixèd mark
That looks on tempests, and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.

Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out ev'n to the edge of doom:—

If this be error, and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

"Give me for marriage a sweet-breath’d woman, of whom I should never tire" Walt Witman

"But to see her was to love her,
Love but her, and love forever." Robbie Burns

"Send two dozen roses to Room 424 and put 'Emily, I love you' on the back of the bill." Groucho Marx

"Love is like war: easy to begin but very hard to stop."
H. L. Mencken

"Before I met my husband, I'd never fallen in love. I'd stepped in it a few times."
Rita Rudner

"Love is being stupid together."
Paul Valery
