Yesterday a snow storm, today walking outside in shorts and barefoot. Hmm the weather changes are bizarre. Monday 60 degrees weather expected.
Spent the morning working on a paper piece project. First time in a long time since I've done a paper pieced project. Took me 1.5 hours to make one 5x7 block. I only have to make 109 more blocks. I'll have to do another one although I followed the instructions the completed block was mirror image. I kind of remember this last time I did a paper pieced project. I seem to remember turning the paper pattern backwards.
Still have the One block Wonder to complete - that class is next week. I was continuing to move blocks around each morning. I think I like where it is now.
Plan to go to the pool for an hour later on. Hoping the gym has cleared their parking lot. We had 15-18 inches of snow.
Will figure out what video I'll do later on in the day.
I did a 2nd block reversing the paper diagram. This one went a lot easier and came out nicer. It still took 1.5 hours but it seemed to go quicker - go figure.
So 2 blocks down......
I hit the pool for 50 minutes tonight. Still have to do my video. Made baked ziti.
I asked the Spark coach how I can strengthen my lower back as I've found if I stand for any length of time I have lower back pain.
Partial reply: In general, I'd say that the best way to approach lower back issues with strengthening exercises is to focus on strenghtening your core (abdominal) muscles and on exercises to help with maintaining good posture. Usually, lower back weakness/soreness is caused by weak abdominal muscles which don't provide enough support for the smaller back muscles, and/or by posture problems that force the back muscles to do things they aren't designed to do.
Coach Nicole has some Pilates video workouts and articles in the Fitness Resource Center, like this video:
I tried this exercise. It was very good. Tough for me to do but it really brought home that I do have to strengthen these muscles. I plan to add this at least weekly to my regiment. Hopefully it will make a difference.
