I did it! After 9 weeks of training, from having never run before, I ran a 5k. I did it in 35:49, which I am happy with. I predicted that I could probably do it in under 36 minutes, and I did! I had to walk 3 minutes and speed walk another 3, but the rest of those 36 minutes (I ran for an extra 11 seconds to get an even number), I was running. I did better the first half. I may have pushed myself too hard or eaten too soon before going out (I wasn't feeling good at the end), so the second half was difficult. As my karate teachers says, I had fun and learned a lot. And I did. I feel AMAZING, physically and mentally right now.
From here I am going to, after a two day rest, join the SparkPeople 5k Running program. Since I was not able to run straight through this 5k, that is my goal. This goal is going to be much harder to accomplish that just being able to complete a 5k, but I think in 5 weeks I should be able to do it.
