When we have debt, it is a constant reminder to us every month that we have to pay someone. When we have debt where we are paying others for something we borrowed in order to have what we wanted, then we are creating bills for things we could have lived without. Creating debt is basically buying things we can’t really afford. It is tempting. It is so easy to do. But it can snowball into something that can get out of control. When we owe money, sometimes the money we should be giving to God ends up going to our debts.
Romans 13:8 “Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, help us to stop getting into debt and show us how get become debt-free. We know that we can stop making choices today that will put us further into debt and we can learn how to get our debts paid off faster so we can be obedient to You. We know when we have debt, it consumes our thoughts and actions so that we aren’t able to give freely to You and to fully love one another. Show us the right thing to do today, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
If we are in debt now, there is a way out. What can we do today to get closer to being debt-free?
Money can consume us especially if we are in debt. Let’s choose to make wiser decisions about money and stop borrowing for things we may not need.
Planning ahead can help us get out of debt and have the financial freedom God wants us to have. What God can give us doesn’t cost us anything.
Isaiah 55:1-2 “Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk— it’s all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food.” (NLT)
