Day 65 (Bought a Piece of Local Art)

Saturday, March 09, 2013

First, the weigh-in. Down a pound. Not a major breakthrough, but it's something and something is better than nothing. :)

Now, for the art! We've been looking for a couple of pieces to add to the wall along the stairs and/or the upstairs foyer. Nothing was really jumping out at us and we didn't want mass produced wall hangings up there. We finally decided to browse some local artists who are trying to sell their work.

That's when I stumbled across The Money Tree, a 3D painting/sculpture. When I FIRST saw it, I instantly thought "This is totally us! We have to have it!" After looking at it for a few minutes, I thought "Well, maybe it's just tacky and it's not us." Then I came back to it a few minutes later and was back at "No, this is RIGHT. It just feels right." I thought it over a bit and just couldn't decide how I really felt about it, so I asked my husband his opinion. His first response (not knowing mine) was "Yes. That's it. That's totally us." Haha. That sealed the deal. No doubt, it IS a big garish - but there is just something about it. The money is not real, of course, but it is supposed to bring good fortune and abundance to your life. I'm not sure about all that, but I suspect it'll be a nice conversation piece. The artist was also burning incense that smelled really good. Most of it (other than Sandalwood) bothers me, but this one was nice.

Buying art can become really fun, and sometimes quite profitable. You do have to stick to originals in order to have any go up in value. But you get to decorate your home and office? and sometimes watch it go up in value. Even it it doesn't, you're probably buying what you like. Enjoy, Glenn
