It was a spectacularly sunny day, cold, but the blue sky beckoned me. I chose Juanita/Kirkland YRE 1701 because I remember it following Juanita Bay to the Kirkland Marina. I really wanted to catch some of the views that make living in the Puget Sound region so wonderful.
Not photographically savvy to focus toward the sun, but I want to give an idea of the view along the route: (The buildings in the distance are the top floors of the skyscrapers in Seattle)
I hadn't gone too far into Juanita Bay Park when I spotted this gorgeous wood duck...too bad he was camera shy.
I used most the battery life in my camera taking pics of the turtles--I counted at least 15 in this photo
The route then changed from previous years where we meandered through neighborhoods. The reroute takes you through parks and trails instead of city streets. At two places along the route, we are instructed to go through gates that look like they led into someone's yard.....but as soon as you open the gate you realize it is public access.
From Marina Park, the route climbs to parks atop the hill over looking Lake Washington. Some nice trails though I should have worn waterproof shoes. Yesterday's rain made for some muddy spots. When it was time to descend to Lake level it came all at once. I was already 1/3 of the way down when I snapped this:
Home just ahead of Friday afternoon traffic. A great walk. Thanks for the interesting reroute Trailblazers!
