I haven't posted anything since 21 February? Hmm, how'd that happen?
Well I went on vacation so that took care of a whole week. IT.WAS.GREAT. Great friends, great music, sunshine and warmth (most of the time) - exactly what I needed.
However, I've never been on a cruise as a vegan, so that part was challenging. I called Norwegian in advance and asked about my options. They told me they marked me in the system as a vegan and that if I should talk to my cabin steward about dinner reservations in the morning. OK, fine. I went on a chartered music cruise where there's music about 22 hours a day (seriously) so spending hours in the dining room was unlikely anyway. There's the buffet 24 hours a day and I figured I'd eat there most of the time. She said there'd be a salad bar and they always have veggie burgers on request. OK. A week of veggie burgers. I can handle it I guess.
Well the salad bar was acceptable but not great. My salad came down to lettuce, carrots, peas, cucumbers, and sunflower seeds. Not bad, but also no protein aside from the teeeeensy amount in the seeds. Everything else on the buffet was meat and cheese. The veggie burgers I don't think were actually vegan but no one could answer the question. I just went with it. Of course then I had to wait 15 minutes while everyone else finished their meal before my burger showed up. There was fresh fruit available and some days even steamed veggies not covered in cheese.
Anyway, this is the definition of first world problem, right? I was on a cruise to the Bahamas in FEbruary, for the love of god. I should shut up.
This week I've been back at work and hella slammed, so that explains my absence this week.
Next week I'm in Orlando for work, then home a week, then off to Singapore. Orlando will be another food desert. It's my hometown so I'll get to see my family but Orlando is all chain restaurants and terrible food. Singapore should be good though. I love Asian food in general and it's super easy to veganize it - and lots of it is vegan to begin with.
I came home to the exact same weight I left before the cruise, so I guess that's a success. Despite a week of lettuce, french fries, and vodka, I guess all my jumping and dancing around at concerts offset the calories.
And I'll leave you with one last commentary on this week.
I've been back at the gym and really working on my strength training. Wednesday I did lower body stuff, and I knew I was working hard. Yesterday, and even going into today holy shizballs my lower body is sore. I missed this feeling.
This morning I did upper body stuff, and I knew I was working hard. However, my upper body is pathetic. So I'm feeling like a badass because I graduated to the 15 pound weights when this guy comes and takes the bench next to me and starts doing the exact same exercise I'm doing ... but with 80 pound dumbbells. Great. Way to make me feel like a lameass, dude. I know I can't compare myself to that giant meathead but still, I felt dumb. However, I'm already feeling my shoulders and arms aching so I know tomorrow will be proof again that I'm WORKING.
That's my goal to get through March. Keep doing what I'm doing, and keep up this feeling. Accomplishment. Hell yeah, muscles. Build! Build! Build!
But for now ... Stretch! STretch! Stretch!
